Evening Bob, I have had quite a few trips around Panjim over the years, and still trying to get our bearings on which way to go and ''where are we''.
Normally me and one of my fellow Ganesh shack mates make the trip each year taking the local bus to Betim and getting the ferry across the Mandovi (all good fun !), the women seem to find it far too hot in March so it's good for us to head anywhere we want without moaning..
Depends what you are into really, but if art galleries are your thing there are a few scattered about, and keeping your eyes open you can see the history of Goa and the modern side also.
Lots of dirty old shops and stores but interesting to see what they sell. Parks everywhere you turn and some nearly always set up ready for some show or festival. Royal Enfield show room can be found if your into bikes ? An interesting market of fruit fish and veg is worth a browse.
If you take the ferry over walk up the jetty and turn right, a good 20 min walk along the waters edge brings you to a sculpture park and a big outdoor arena and then miramar beach. From here you can head into the back of Panjim seeing the old style Portuguese buildings (easy to get lost here but good fun..) We ended up right at the top of the hills overlooking the city and here you can see all the government buildings and court houses etc.. Some great views for pics also.
Heading back down into the centre there are some great little side streets with hidden gems of restaurants and drinking dens - hic hic..
The Panjim Inn is a good place to head for - good food, cold beers and they have some great old Portuguese furniture and art gallery to look at. The Inox cinema isn't far from the market (but we ain't had a look round there yet)
I am trying to gather info myself for next year, to see what else we can discover, google map it and you can easily pick up which way you want to be.
I have more info to add later about bars etc but work is keeping me off the net for a while so stick around.
Spike.

Places to enjoy a drink, The Crown Hotel, great views across the whole city http://www.thecrowngoa.com/
Cafe Mojo, found it last year - brilliant place ! http://cafemojo.in/locations/india/goa/panjim/
Mandovi Hotel - good food and views across the river http://www.hotelmandovigoa.com/

A little further up from the Mandovi Hotel is Top Gear Pub, no website but very clean place - after getting the ferry over, walk up the jetty and turn left, walk a few hundred yards down and look over the road, you will see the pub sign, Mandovi Hotel is on the same side and a bit further down.

Hi spike...
like yourself we get the bus at about 4 into Panjim....
We always do the "Sunset cruise"......its a must for anyone who has not done it...boy can them Indian guys dance..... :rofl
We then go upto Panjim Inn for a couple of cold beers before just wondering into the centre of Panjim to try and find those hidden little local bars.....found a few good ones but would not be able to give directions or even their names as some don't have one !!!
Been to both Mandovi and Delhi Darbar for evening meals and also like a cold beer at Top Gear pub...
Don't forget....next time you visit the Panjim Inn look for the stags head....only in India.. :cheers

Will look out for it noggin :D
We did the sunset cruise last year and the worst we have encountered, the car park near the flyover where all taxis are dropping off was closed (looked like some construction going up ?) there were road works all along the entrances to the boat kiosks which was very bad for our alternative drop off and pick up. The boat we have always used the Royal wasn't running so we ended up on a massive beast well over crowded, and the arrival at the dock side to get off, resulted in what can only be described as a mass scramble at Harrods sales - the Indians being the cause of unnecessary panic and pushing.
If I don't hear better reports this coming season, we will give it a miss, shame as it's a good start to a great night out.

Spike this season the cruises were running differently to previous years, you couldn't book a particular boat/ time when one boat was full another pulled in. We had opted to go for a later one this year and our boat was much the same as previous years.
This coming season we are going to try and find a restaurant we found by chance a couple of years ago thing is we can't remember the name only that it was up stairs think it may have had few tables on a veranda and it overlooked some gardens/square!! It was dark lol and we had had a couple of drinks but the food was brilliant.

That would explain a lot about the boats the. You will have to look round panjim in the day time - see if it jogs your memory, would be nice to know about it once you find it again (keep off the booze!)

Nejulie, was it in the old Fontainhas district of Panaji? Over by Ourem Creek?

There is a famous/excellent restaurant there thats upstairs.

Hi Botany Bay...no we had called in a restaurant/pub near to creek again can't remember the name this place was a pub downstairs which was closed due to a flood and eating area up stairs we had a couple of drinks very over priced then I went to the loo opened the door and a rat the size of a Yorkshire terrier was sitting on it!!!!!
The place where we ate was further into town the building looked quite shabby but fine inside there was a large room next to dining room looked a ball room old with really high ceiling and little open verandas looked as though it hasn't been used for a while but could imagine it being quite grand in its day.
I am going to have a look on google earth to see if anything rings a bell.

Had a look on Google Earth and nothing jogs my memory I think I will just have to do as Spike says and have a wander during the day. Annoying this is I did write down in my Journal what we ate and what it cost.
We had 2 starters, 1 beef and 1 chicken Xacuti ( the beef one was the best I have tasted) 1 rice 1 nan 2 kulfi, 1 kingfisher (only beer they did yuk) and a gin and tonic . Bill was 540 rupees which was probably the cheapest meal for the amount we had
