Is the Blue a toner? If so then should wash out after a couple washes.

You said it was her first error of judgement. But surely if she has done your hair before she would know you do dye your hair? I am not sure what you can do I'm afraid. Why did she change her mind about the blue colouring? Would bleaching immediately before adding the hair colour be a bad idea? I would imagine that's why your colouring hasn't come out as you wanted.
Hopefully we have a hairdresser amongst our members who can advise if bleaching and colouring in the same day is bad for the hair.
In the meantime . brazen it out and pretend to everyone its exactly what you wanted :)

Before tinting/colouring then I would expect the hairdresser to carry out a test. A small piece of hair is coloured with the dye which would give a reasonably accurate idea of the final colour. My wife is a hairdresser of 58 years and I have seen her do the test many times.

Depending on what sort of tint used there could be problems trying to change it. The hairdresser said that she could not do it so am surprised she agreed to do what she did without warning you in advance it may not match what you wanted.

That's what I thought FWH re the test being done first. But I still dont understand why she didn't know her client already dyes her hair. And then to top it off she says no initially to the colour but then goes ahead and does it? I think I would give that hairdresser a wide berth!

stream -Have you thought about asking to see the salon owner?

I'm confused! Others replying seem to understand the OP as saying that this hairdresser had dyed her hair in the past whereas I understood her to mean that this was the first time that she'd had ever her hair coloured? Either way, unless you already have very grey ie silver hair there's no way you could achieve a pastel blue without first bleaching out all the natural colour. You can't lighten the colour of hair without bleach of some sort, just as you couldn't dye a darker coloured garment pale blue without first bleaching it.

As I went so grey that having it coloured back to my original black just looked unnatural, I asked my hairdresser if she could bleach all my hair to a Helen Mirren silver but she refused because she said that where I still retained some of my natural pigment around the nape of my neck that hair would probably go no lighter than orange! So I decided to go really unnatural and began having up to 4 'fashion' colours streaked through the silver grey on the top of my head. I was doing what I understand is now called the 'Unicorn' hair look more than 10 years ago but my hairdresser never bleached my hair first - she just used foils to streak the colour through using the same technique as she'd use to do low or highlights. The colours were always very bright at first but because there was no ammonia or peroxide in the colour she applied they would gradually fade to pastel and it did need to be done every 6/8 weeks depending on how frequently I shampooed it.

I've only ever been unhappy with my hair on one occasion (not the hairdresser I went to for the 'unicorn' look) and they immediately rectified it for free with no ill will but I'm not sure that they would have done so if I'd left the salon and gone back a week later.

Now that sounds like an interesting hairdo Sma! I am wondering which 4 colours you used :)
Stream herself has said in another hair post here that she dyes her hair.

Purple, Berry, Electric Blue and Sea Green! I haven't got any digital pics of my own to hand but the overall effect looked very like the middle image in the 2nd photo down on the link below - though I was wearing my hair not quite as long as that at the time.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and stumbled upon this. Sorry if I sounds like I'm interfering.

My hairdresser is a colour specialist. I go in with wild ideas about what colour, but she often tells me "that won't work". How a colour will end up on your hair depends on several things. First thing is obviously the competence and skill of the person actually colouring it, and the rest is down to several things. Including your own natural hair colour, including if you have any grey hair or natural highlights, or if you have any existing hair dye on. Also, the result can depend on the length of your hair and the overall condition. Naturally, your hair is often darker at the roots, especially in summer, due to the UV rays. How long the dye is left on, and how porous your hair is, and even down to if your hair is wavy straight or curly.

My hair is very porous and quite curly, which means it's naturally dry, so soaks up everything you put on it, including conditioner and hair dye! My hair reacts very differently to someone who has straighter, oilier hair.

I have heard that Vosene can help get colour out of your hair too, however, hair dye technology is changing, and dyes that used to fade quicker, don't fade as quick, but it might be worth a try.

Personally, I would try and find yourself a decent hairdresser that is a colour specialist, and just go in and talk to them. They might not be able to fix it there and then, but a quick fix might not be the answer. Although with browner colours, the chemicals aren't necessarily as strong as blonds, so he or she might be able to sort you out. A decent hairdresser will have a look at your hair, and be honest with you of what might or might not work. You could try highlights (if you don't already have them), so your base is the darker brown, but it has lighter parts in it, so may look "softer". Again, worth consulting a decent hairdresser first.

Remember, your hair probably doesn't look as bad as you think! But when something is radically different to what we want, we often assume it's terrible!

Good luck.
