Do you remember running out to the TA to get the new holiday brochure? The fun of flicking through the pages to find your ideal resort? Then the carry on deciding on which hotel you wanted to go? Pre internet days, we just had to rely on the brochure and personal recommendations. Planes - smoking and non smoking sections. One tv and hopefully a film on you wanted to watch.The first thing you did on landing was get your cabin bag, not switch on your mobile!! Then going out on to the top of the steps and there was a photographer snapping everyone. The carousel, as well as cases, had huge portable stereos.
The hotels never had a/c and you bought these tiny handheld fans that didn't help much when you were trying to sleep.
Prices were always a lot lower than the UK. You wrote postcards and sent them on day 1 and they would arrive home about a fortnight after you did! Newspapers were a day old. You had to queue for ages at a phonebox! You read paper books!!!Sometime or other you had to throw your head back to see how much sangria you could drink. You had to buy a fan/spanish doll/donkey/poster with your name on it. Suddenly deciding at 3am that you had to have a hamburger roll before you went to yet another disco. Going to bed at 6am and managing to get up for breakfast, because you had paid for it!
Photos- you just had to hope they would come out all right when you put them in to be developed. Then wait impatiently for next year's brochures to come out! Then a song would come on the radio and you wished you were back on holiday!
