as the person has said
when i booked my hoiday i said to the travel agents that i need the hotel to cater for me and he said that would not be a problem he sent the hotel an email saying to them and they came back saying that would be ok

this would indicate to me that the hotel was aware, had agreed, and so are liable for some compensation.
i would ensure i got a copy of the e-mail trail, if you do not have this already, and then contact Ros Fernihough, Travel Law Solicitor, to provide the best information available.
