Hi Cruise,
If you like seafood, then i strongly recommend going to the fish market in Fethiye town centre one night, there, you can buy your fish / seafood fresh from the market and take it to one of the restaurants inside the market and they will cook it for you there and then for 5 ytl, ( about £2 ), a good traditional night out, in proper turkish surroundings. Make a night of it. good value and great atmosphere.

 Kev
P.S.
Another good turkish restaurant is situated just above the Migros superstore towards the traffic lights on the left in Fethiye. You can always tell a traditional turkish restaurant, they always have water on the tables, free.

Hi Cruisecontroller,

Kevin is right; the fish market is superb and a must-do when in Fethiye. You can also eat there during the day, but night time is even nicer somehow - more buzzy and all lit up prettily. The best restauarant in the market is HILMI. They cook the fish perfectly, and look after you well. Oh, and if you like calimari they soak it in beer for 24 hours so it's all tender.

For excellant good value grills - TATLITEST is one of the best Turkish restaurants - nearly all the customers are Turkish. It's situated on the main road opposite the harbour on the west side (about 200 metres from the dolmus drop off point in Fethiye). Their full kebabs are really good, and soooo reasonable too!

For REALLY cheap food try the BIRLIK (the one next to the Hayal Cinema). It's a self-service restaurant. You only ever see Turkish people in there. It's so cheap it's ridiculous, but it's mainly casseroles - that sort of thing. The food is very good, they have bins of bread on the table, and jugs of water, but do not serve alcohol. :( It's VERY basic, but very tasty, and you get a chance to eat genuine Turkish food.

The MEGRI in Fethiye (on the corner of the market - not the one inside) is again very good. That's the one I'd choose to go to on holiday (that and the fish market). It has a huge selection of meze's, hot and cold ones, great kebabs etc, plus International style food; pepper steak etc. It's a nice comfortable restaurant and very reasonably priced.

If you walk past the Megri (as though you are coming from the harbour) there are two other Turkish restauarants just a few yards up from there. They are VERY cheap. Cheaper than the Megri - and the food is just as good (if not better) but they don't look as attractive from the front. The last one along gets packed with Turks - and you sometimes have to wait for a table.

Hope that helps.

Have a great time.

Each time we have been to Fethiye, we have always eaten at a small place called Imran Manti - it's down one of the side roads near the Sultan (?) Patisserie.

The only problem is that it is only open during the day

Kevin, Strawberry7 and Mrs Gannet, thank you for the information, though it is not for us as we are going to Kalkan, it will prove to be of great use to the people for whom we've obtained it, our Grandson and his girlfriend. It is their first time in Turkey. On a personal note, we used some traditional Turkish Restaurants in Kusadasi last September and really enjoyed the experience. In Kalkan, we will be spoilt as there are so many restaurants you couldn't do them all in a fortnight !!!!
