Price difference may depend upon when the holiday was booked. For example we booked a cruise in February for January 2018 and I've just seen it's gone up (with the same firm) a staggering £1200.00 each!!

Wow - Babs that sounds like you got in at the right time. I just want to know what people are generally paying all year round.

I am hearing some real horror stories..

How long are the family staying in Alcudia Lance, one or two weeks?

July/August prices are always high as travel companies have a captive audience and charge premium prices to families who can only go away during school holidays.

Hi Judith - 1 week 😮

Nowhere exotic for me, but for County Donegal in Ireland in September I paid about £525.00 for 10 nights self catering cottage with 2 bedrooms and I take dogs including ferry and vehicle across to get there. I got one of my best prices I had for my break so far and I didn't do anything special to make it cheaper as it's the same sort of place I always go for. I booked last September for this September so I did get a good deal as when I phoned to make an enquiry and a booking, they had to phone the owner to make sure they where using them for this year.
Pretty chuffed with it to be honest. I'm not sure if I am allowed to say whom I am booked with though.
Must say though I wasn't planning on booking quite so soon but saw something ideal so I jumped especially since I had already got my holiday approved at work.

17 nights on a French campsite plus ferry travel each way (overnight in a cabin on one crossing) is costing us £1800. That is in July. Normally we go in June and it is several hundred pounds cheaper.

For my usual short haul holiday we go to Lanzarote , I pay about 500 for flights and car hire for 2 of us , if we go in club Europe it's another 100 each , I rent a 2 bed 2 bath , private pool and detached villa for 600 ( around 85 a night ) , so 1100 to 1300 in total , we spend about 500 a week on all food and drinks , eating out most nights .if my sister and her partner come it's about 150 extra in villa charges , so for 4 of us flights and villa costs 450pp
On long haul in recent years we pay around 500 each on flights , but with my reward vouchers we end up in first or at worst club ( biz ) I reckon 500 would be cost for economy returns , I look to pay about 100 to 150 for hotels per night , so total max cost would be 2000 for both of us , I suppose the voucher and points just get us a very nice flight .
I think the peak holiday prices are now about 50% more in relation to the standard holiday prices , I never travel in school holidays and don't have kids , I get the feeling though that airlines and accommodation are becoming very expensive if travelling in school holiday / peak times and other times now seem a standard price rather than periods that were once mid price and low price .

OH and I do a mixture of package and independently booked trips each year. At the beginning of May we had a week in Crete visiting three different places, we flew with Ryanair, stayed in two different hotels and an apartment, ate out most nights and had a hire car for the week, total cost around €1300.
We will probably have a week in Austria or Northern Italy in September, not booked yet, we will pay up to €150 per night for half board, only other expenses will be drinks, lunches and petrol as we will be driving to our destination total cost circa. €1200
Middle of October we have a weeks package to Rhodes booked, HB €775 per person. So with lunches, hire car for the week, fuel and drinks total cost will probably be just under €2000.
I no longer travel long haul, but if I did I would be prepared to pay considerably more for my holidays.
We never go away during summer school holidays, many places would be too hot or too crowded for us, but if we did I know we would have to be prepared to pay considerably more for our week away.

It's a good few years since I've done a traditional package - for the last 4 years my main holidays have either been cruises or specialist trips to Cuba. The week long cruises to the Norwegian fjords came in at around £600 per head - one as an early bird bargain, one as a last minute one. The 2 week Baltic one was just over £1,000 per head which we booked early and then later got a really good free upgrade on. I thought that all of them were really good value, especially as 2 of them were in the high summer season but with a cruise line that is adults only so their prices are pretty similar throughout the year.

The trips to Cuba come in much more expensive - not much change from £2,000 per head by the time you add in the flights, an overnight stay at the airport the evening before flying out etc - but again I think they are good value because the land package includes HB in a single en-suite room with a local family plus 30 hrs of personal dance tuition, some conversational Spanish or percussion classes plus at least 2 full day excursions or the equivalent, a couple of included evenings out to some of the local music venues (others are done on a kitty basis) and all tips for the dancers and guides. So there isn't that much extra spending money needed - I usually budget for around £300 for the 2 week trip.

We paid £1200 altogether for flights and 10 days bed and breakfast in an aparthotel in Zante ( which I now have to go about cancelling today :()
We didn't do a package. BA flights and Expedia for hotel. I got the flights for less than easyjet prices.
