I can't answer that but I have to say that early every morning this last trip I was awoken to a right racket of bird song. Well song is probably the wrong word as it was not very melodic :D
But I know many birdwatchers do go to Goa so it will be interesting to hear any of their observations.

Hi
I have birded quite a lot in Goa and I can't really offer much in the way of then and now as my first trip was only as recent as 2009. I have been three times and the only thing I can shed light on is that I have not really noticed a decline in those trips. I have noted variance in species but thought it more down to seasonal changes etc. It's something I have not given a great deal of thought to as in relation to birding in Britain it is still an eye opener both in diversity and quantity.

I will be there again birding in December this year with my wife and always look forward to a trip to Backwoods camp. I shall ask the people who bird extensively if this is/ has been a feature of the birds.

I hope I get a positive response as if birds have no place in India I don't know where would. Logically the problem globally is a tough one as whilst we may see birds in "Goa" like most species they are resident and migratory so any possible problem could lay elsewhere rather than the place we are or are not seeing them.

If you are interested I put together a very comprehensive bird report together on my website

Hi Sleeper

If you are interested I put together a very comprehensive bird report together on my website

:think You have sold yourself short here, I have just read through your reports and as you say they are comprehensive, I logged in to have a look and see if you have pictures of various local birds (feathered variety) from you travels.

Now, all I can say is that EVERYBODY with the slightest interest in Goa should have a look at the travel reports, there is SOOO much more information in them, they are not just the ramblings of a birdwatcher, Sleeper has added loads of good information on all sorts of topics about his hotel, food, eating out, maps etc.

THANK YOU Sleeper, nice one :tup

Kitman - Glynis

Thank you for the positive reply. The first report is quite a report in various aspects. They do take a lot of time with the pictures etc. I do like doing them though.

I hope others find them as informative as you two have.

So much to offer for all manner of holiday needs that keeps us going back. Might I had the Honey bee plays no part in our decision. hicup!

PS Glynis. Those adverts you refer to are not as simple as adverts. they are an integral part of both what I use both for reference recording. Whilst I make a very small amount of commission there was a greater need as lot's of people contact me asking what I use for this or that....I just found it better for me and those interested to know easily.

One of the reasons I guess for the birds to disappear is the Mobile phone towers on top of buildings and fields. There was a time when sparrows were everywhere in metro cities in India - now you cannot spot a single sparrow in the cities or even nearby cities..

BTW, at the far north end of Palolem beach in South Goa, you can hire a boat to explore the backwaters ... there you can spot a lot of birds, mainly Kingfishers - that part of Goa is the most beautiful ...
