As a resort Varadero grew on me as on first going into the town it seemed it had very little to offer.
But as I started to wander the street and see that this was as much a living working small Cuban town and not just a tourist resort i started to enjoy it much much more.
With the resort being spread down a strip of land 20kms long it really is hard to find a true center as everything is sread out along the strip.
This is where the all day bus ticket comes in handy for 5 peso each you can hope on and off all day long.
The resort has all the usual water sports on offer to the visitor along with a great town park which has a kids fairground cafes and a swimming pool.
the Nightlife is good if you like to dance to Cuban music as there are so very very good clubs in the downtown area.
The beach is stunning to look at and the one downtown is stunning to be on although it can get busy at times.
This leads me to my one big gripe about Cuba its beaches in varadero.
They are simply stunning and yet they are not cleaned enough and rubbish mounts up with what can only be lazy tourists not putting stuff in the bins.
It would only take a tractor to rake these beaches in the morning and I think you would have one of the worlds best beaches under your feet. and as for the water its like getting in a hot run bath.
Varadero would I go back yes I would go tomorrow But I would make sure I spent a bit more time in Havana its a must see place and one day is just not enough.

Not a great deal to do in Varedero so get a good hotel!

The area is really nice and clean, we went on three trips the jeep safari for the day this was good however the food was poor full of flys so I would take something to eat with you, you also have to buy your drinks all day too. Then we went on the catameram and Dolphin trip this is a fab trip and worth every penny, good free drinks lots of good food and the Dolphins well they were second to none. Then the jet bikes these were also fantastic. Overall excellent trips and good value for money.

Overall very clean and beach uncluttered.
Entertainment is good especially as some of the dancers are catering / pool / general staff during the day. They put a lot into it so nothing but praise from me.
Stayed on site apart from 3 days in Havana ( recommend over the day trip ) and the Three Cities tour day trip.

the resort was fantastic, loads of bars and resturants, there was a fantastic park for an afternoon stroll, if you are into arts and crafts there were plenty of galaries and museums to visit. the beach was beautiful. one of the best places i have been too.

Typical Caribbean resort but without the hassle. Flea markets were a 'pleasure' to walk around as you were not pestered and they let you get on with looking at your own pace. Local crafts are very cheap. The only 'hassle' we had was with the taxi drivers and horse drawn carriages always asking if you wanted a taxi, but not a problem really. Some slight poverty on show, but very little really as this is a purpose developed area for tourism and not the 'real' Cuba.

Beach super, but there are a lot of cigarette ends, (spanish comunities rake the beach)
not a lot in Varadero, some markets all selling the same tat
Bargain for the taxis say not on meter and you will get 1/2 price drives!!
go to Havana.......

We didn't go into Varadero town by night, by day it is a pleasant walk along the main street, beautiful park with boating lake, camel rides & well maintained. Varadero has stalls and shops (v good prices), market, some cafes, restaurants, bars (we didnt use).
Varadero is Marketed as probably the Caribbean's most beautiful beach, this I can believe, white sand & clear blue sea.

like most Carribean holidays, thee is not much to do outside the Hotel.

Resort is as great as the hotel. Spotlessly clean, in good condition and with loads to do. Beach is fantastic, beautiful white sands, no litter and well patrolled.
