When we first arrived at Don Joao we thought it looked quite nice from outside. It is a relatively small complex with only 36 rooms.
The holiday representative warned us on the way down from the airport that accommodation in Goa tends to be very basic and boy was she right.
We got a bit of a shock at first but funnily enough within a day or two we grew to quite like out room. With some fresh paint and upgraded furniture it would actually be very nice - at the moment it looks a little bit dingy. The beds were changed every day and clean towels left for us often shaped into wonderful creations such as snakes, boats and birds.
There were also good, big ceiling fans to keep us cool and a ...
fridge to keep our drinks in. Every room has a nice balcony shaded by tall palm trees. The outside of the hotel is very pretty with a nice pool, a poolside bar and a poolside restaurant.
The cuisine is not spectacular but it there is some variety and the prices are very cheap. The highlight for us was the staff who are absolutely delightful and when we left it felt like saying goodbye to friends. Don Joao is only budget accommodation but as such is a nice, friendly place to stay.
