The beach here is fantastic, very wide, fine white sand and clean. The sea was often rough, good fun, this brought in a lot of seaweed which was cleared up frequently. Also the lack of fag butts in the sand was a nice surprise, very different to Europe. Its a 40 min. walk into PDC along a very smart road beautifully landscaped with exotic trees and plants and some very expensive property. The wildlife is plentiful, one day we had a group of Spider monkeys in a tree close to our balcony, Iguanas are everywhere, the birds and butterflies are spectacular and there are giant guinea pigs (Agoutis) around which we fed with apple from the balcony. You dont have to go far from the tourist zone to see the poverty its a real contrast. The town was bigger than expected and had a great atmosphere, 5th ave. was always buzzing. Theres a lot to see and do in this region and we enjoyed it all

Broad soft sandy beach - best stretch. Sea too rough for swiming or snorkelling at this time of year.
The resort of Playacar is a 5 min walk, no entertaimnent or bars, just souvenir shops & a Pharmacy.
Playa del Carmen is 5 min in a taxi ($5) & offers much more in the way of nightlife, bars & restaurants (as well as the souvenir shops)

The beach was lovely, white sand and turquoise water although some times it could be a bit rough and as it sloped quite steeply it wouldn't have been suitable for children on their own. Men were out raking it every day. Outside the hotel was a dual carriageway which was very nice and safe to cross and across the road was the Plaza a small shopping area with a dozen or so shops. Not a lot to do in the resort outside of the hotel but take a taxi to Playa Del Carmen in the evening (5 dollars each way),and you can stroll around dozens of shops/stalls, watch the ferry crossing to Cozumel while you take in a nice cold beer.

Very clean, the entertainment was good they do not repeat it as it is done each 2 weeks.

Great for the kids, the beach was lovely and white, we would visit again.

Playcar is a purpose built resort 'Village'. Very safe, clean and with good links to surrounding attractions.

The resort waas well manned and was secluded from other part of the city. There was a small dance across at the other hotels which you are allowed to use. We cannot coment on the resort entertainment as we spent all of the time in the hotel and excursions. I tell you if you go deffinately go on the expedition to see the dolphins, sealions and manities that is something i will never never forget.

Playacar is fantastic - a strip of luxury hotels in a gated community outside of Playa Del Carmen. Far less built up than Cancun - lots to do and fabulous beaches, culture and people. What more can you want!

There is loads to do in playa del carmen - local bars and restauarants off 5th avenue (the main tourist road) are great and cheaper, although of course visit the tourist bars like senor frogs/carlos n charlies/etc (the tour operators do 'party nights' these are expensive to be honest and not really worth the £).

The beach is nice in playa and they sometimes have gigs/festivals on at night - where on the front they have stalls selling nibbles/fruit kebabs etc. very good dance bars on the beach. You have your table in the sand and its fab with the sea breeze. Usually cost about 6 USD's to get in but you get a couple of beers included so it doesn't really cost to get in.

Playa is very cosmopolitan - there are bars for everyone. It can be expensive to eat and drink out in playa so have a good look around if you do fancy a change from the hotel a night - its usually only about £1.25/£1.50 or a bottle of beer on 5th avenue. A good bar to have a drink in is tequila barrel on 5th avenue. If you are really into partying/clubbing it big time then cancun is your place, but playa is lively enough or very chilled relaxed night time too - whatever you want it is there.

Also recommend whilst you are there to go over to Cozumel island (ferry from playa del carmen, every hour and not too expensive) - the natural ecogological park chankanuub is fabulous for snorkelling/scuba - there is also a jungle type walk around and lake which is good for a walk.

They do have the dolphin swin there but it isn't for me. Palacar reef on Cozumel is also meant to be great.

We have visited Chitzen Itza Mayan ruins and coba ruins - both good days out.

Cancun is great for a day / night trip shopping or clubbing - go on the bus its very cheap - they run all the time til about midnight and are air-conditioned, clean, with tv's even! Also there are little mini vans 'collectivo's which are cheap and go to lots of places including cancun, down to xel-ha / xacarat (didn't got to either) and also to akumal off the main highway. Akumal is beautiful beach and has fantastic snorkelling - Akumal means 'turtle' and this is where they live/breed - I was extremely fortunate to see one when I went.

Again a recent hurricane had caused a great deal of damage, however the entire resort was still clean and all debris was quickly removed if it surfaced on the beach or roads. Playacar has an excellent little shopping area and it's well worth a visit, don't forget to haggle though. There are a number of excellent clothes shops just leave room in your suitcase on the outward trip, I struggled to fit it all in.
