Martyn Jones had a holiday at Oscar Hotel, Kyrenia, North Cyprus in September 2006
After reading many reports about the location and quality of Oscars, I arrived with some trepidation. So I was delighted to find that it was clean, friendly, fun, relaxing and only a 15 minute walk from the town centre, including a great view of the castle.
The Mini villa was secluded, felt very private and was of an excellent standard. The pools were all extremely well maintained and the variety of the wave pool, slides, jazuzzi and relaxing \'more grown up\' pool ensured we were always entertained.
Travelling in September, the weather was scorching and there were hardly any kids - so the perfect combination.
There are two restaurants near the hotel, Mirabelle is perfect if you are back late from sightseeing, and the Kebab House is great for lunch.

The Hotel was really nice. Room was cleaned every day and towels and sheets changed regularly. Only had 2 hobs so cooking very limited! Also have to buy your own cleaning products ( washing up liquid, cloths, etc) We stayed in the Pink Court Studios had a lovely sea-view.
There are 3 swimming pools which were cleaned every morning - very nice! Plenty of sun loungers!
Area surrounding hotel not so nice but should be nice when building work is finished. Alesta Kebab house 5 mins walk away.
Food is good and very cheap!
Would definitely visit this hotel again! Town centre only 5mins away by courtesy bus. Also plenty of trips to go on through Cyprus paradise would recommend particularly if you don't hire a car!

T.Broadly stayed at Oscar Hotel, Kyrenia, North Cyprus in June 2006
Breakfast was just adequate with few hot alternatives. One toast machine which was practically useless.
Dinner unimaginative and got cold quickly for late arrivals. Best not to book half board.
First room (Fantasia sea view) badly needed decorating with a TV aerial which ran across the room. Hot tap barely worked - extractor fan sounded like concorde - bath panel cracked and falling off. Bedside light unable to be reached as cable too short. TV only showed a completely red picture. Curtains did not cover windows when drawn as material not wide enough.
Transferred to a better room on protest. External hotel facilities excellent.
Hotel 1 1/2 miles outside Kyrenia and surrounded by unfinished buildings with no signs of work being done on them. Residents described the locality as like \"Beirut\".

There were 15 of us went on holiday and some of us were in Mini Villas and the rest in the Pink Court Apmnts.
The Pink court apmnts are bigger, but they have better S/c facilities in the mini villas, ie a mini grill and oven. Sadly the Pink Court only have 2 rings.
They bathrooms are bigger in the Pink Court apmnts, to be honest I was dissapointed with the bathroom I had in a mini villa.
The gardens around Oscars, although lovely do tend to get a bit over run, but there are alway people cutting back etc.
The area around Oscars leaves a lot to be desired, but once you are in the hotel grounds you can leave all that behind you.

Prior to our holiday I was a bit worried that there wouldnt be enough to keep the kids happy. We had trouble getting them away from the water slides and wave pool they were having such a great time.
Staff very friendly and happy to help with any problems.
Drinks a bit pricey, and dont buy Ice lollies from the hotel bar they are a rip off, go to the small shop within the hotel for them where they cost a 1/3 of the price.
Breakfast buffet style, plenty of choice.
The biggest bonus to us was not having to get up at the crack of dawn and do the \"towel trail\" as sunbeds were always available at one of the 3 pools all day long.
