Stayed at pits (not a spelling mistake) in July /August 2003. Do yourself a favor don't!!!

Took two young girls 6 & 7 years, and 4 adults. Place was dirty both girls were ill in the room told reception staff and asked for room to be cleaned. One of my girls got rushed into hospital as did so many others.

At one point of the holiday it seemed like there were more ambulances coming and going than anything else. We were informed that the pool was to blame and it was drained.

Like so many others on that holiday we cut our holiday short, we came home four days early!!!

The staff at the hotel were very rude and unhelpful; the reps were useless and couldn't cope.

When we packed to come home there was still dried sick on the floor under the bed even though we had asked reception every day for a whole week to clean our room when the girls were ill.

The best thing about the holiday was coming home......

We went to this hotel in a big group of about 20. When we went the hotel seemed okay. It was right next to the beach but there wasn't many bars near.

The pool was good but far too small for the amount of guests stopping in the hotel.
On the second day of our holiday we were getting ready to go out for our tea when we heard sirens outside our balcony. We went to see what was happening and there was about 5 police cars, 2 ambulances and riot vans parked outside, along with a massive crowd of people. It turned out that there was a bug in the pool which people, mainly children, had caught, due to the lack of cleanliness.

People were being taken to hospital as they were badly ill from the bug.
The pool was then closed the next day, by piles of sunbeds lined around the pool. Then the next day metal barriers were put around the pool and it was emptied.

Over the next week of our holiday there was police cars, ambulances and reporters there about the pool being closed. There was also people in the emptied pool taking all the tiles off and scrubbing the sides of the pool.

The hotel was on GMTV the next morning and was also on Holidays From Hell (and won).
Out of our group of 20 people, only three people that wasn't ill.

It was the worst holiday ever and I will never be returning there.

I stayed here during the time the bug was in the pool but I still had an amazing time. It was my last family holiday with my parents and they really enjoyed it too!

The staff were under a lot of pressure from all the complaints, so they were not as helpful as the other 3 times we stayed there. 4 visits in 8 years is a definite recommendation!

Kids love it and adults can relax in this safe environment

We went to the Pins in August last year and I cannot believe some of the reports on here! The Alcudia Pins is absolutely brilliant, excellent atmosphere, the food is fantastic, yes a bit busy around the pool and on the beach but at high season show me a decent place that isn't. The entertainment was OK no better or no worse than anywhere else, the one bedroom apartments were OK for size and they were well looked after while we were there. The cleaners were very friendly as were the reception staff and the restaurant staff you cannot fault. The location isn't central but you have an excellent complex and you are situated right on the gorgeous beach, Alcudia town is only 10 mins away in a taxi or by bus. Prior to us going we were very anxious about the Pins but there was absolutely no need we had a fantastic holiday and only wish it could have lasted for longer! My little boy was crying on the last night because he didn't want to go home.

To be honest a holiday is what you make it, if you have booked the Pins and are feeling nervous don't be, just relax and have a great time, we did.

PS - we didn't get bitten by mozzy's once!

I have been meaning to post this since I returned on 05/10/2002.
I thought I would wait until now so as not to disappoint too many people who had booked. "The Alcudia Pins" should really be called the Playa De Muro Pins, because that is the location of the Hotel.
It is a 3*** at best, and that is being generous. The food is "School Dinners" style and probably not as good, the restaurant is far too small for the size of the Hotel, hence the 2 sittings for evening meal.
The rooms were far too small there were only 3 of us and it was barely acceptable, the toilet was smelly upon our arrival and after complaining we got it cleaned, the smell returned almost immediately, so my wife bought a bottle of Domestos and we kept on top of it ourselves. The pool and the sun beds have been mentioned on numerous occasions (and all complaints are true) my wife and myself both picked up ear infections from the pool.
Trying to get a Bus or Taxi on market days is a nightmare, you might as well try to hitch hike, we hired a car on the third day of our holiday and kept it until the final night (money well spent 13

Just got back from Alcudia Pins on 5th October. I was quite concerned before the holiday, given the mixed reviews posted on this site and reports of cold weather in Majorca. I am happy to say, however, that the whole family had an excellent holiday and the weather was great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone with children.

We stayed in a 2 bed apartment on a self catering basis. On arrival the rooms were scrupulously clean and I found them to be of a good size and I'm not small! I can see how it would be cramped, however, had we only opted for 1 bedroom, but with people sleeping in the living area what else can you expect? Better to opt for more room and pay the under-occupancy (not much extra on a late booking). The rooms have 2 electric cooking rings but no oven. There is a microwave though.

At this time of year the outside entertainment has stopped so there is no problem with the noise. Entertainment takes place in the bar, which can be quite crowded. We used to go for a meal outside the complex and come back to the bar at about 9.45pm just as the bingo was finishing. After the bingo (if like me you are not a bingo fan don't worry, it only lasts about 10 mins so the kids don't get bored), a few tables become available. The main entertainment event/act starts around 10pm and varies in standard, but its usually quite good. Its all a bit holiday campish, but I don't mind that and the kids loved it.

They show English Premier League games in the bar and have loads of English beers and cider (Scrumpy Jack) on tap and the prices are good compared to back home.
The bar stays open until 1.30am, but entertainment finishes at Midnight.

We didn't eat in the buffet restaurant at the hotel so cannot comment. The Pizzeria and Burger Bar were fine though and were ideal for popping to at lunchtime for a takeaway to take back to the beach or for eating at the tables outside, overlooking the sea. If you fancy a pizza at night though, go outside the complex. They are better and cheaper.

There are a few places to eat outside the complex that are close by. Coming out of the entrance and turning right at the end of the road about 200 yards further on there are 3 restaurants almost next door to each other on the other side of the road. The first is a Steak/Grill restaurant, which we found a bit pricey. The last one has a quite varied menu and was reasonable, but we found the pick of the bunch to be the middle one next to a kids minicar racetrack. The menu is good, the portions large and the prices very reasonable. It might cost you a bit for the minicars if you've got kids though!

There are also large hotels on either side of the Pins, all of which have various Grill, Fast-Food and Paella bar/restuarants where you can eat. Most of these hotels appear to have mainly German clientele, which is different as the Pins appears to be entirely occupied by English. You can also use their pools and bars if you fancy a change.

Its worth getting the bus or taxi into Alcudia to eat and have a look around and to Can Picafort. These are literally a 5 minute ride away. The buses are cheap and run every 15 minutes up to about 11pm. We didn't pay more than 7 Euros for a taxi to either resort. Can Picafort in particular has some very attractive restaurants along the front overlooking the sea.

The Pool area does get a bit congested, especially on the "Sunny" side (one side only gets the sun from about Noon), but there is room to get in the pool, which generally is not too crowded. There were plenty of sun-beds to go around while we were there. One word of warning though, while the sea is lovely and warm (once you are in), the pool is absolutely freezing!!
Sun-beds on the beach are 3.50 Euros, which isn't bad if you are staying all day. Otherwise you can get a beach mat in the shop for about 1 Euro.

One tip, don't buy any air-beds, buckets and spades etc from the shops. There are regular auctions by the stage near the beach where they auction off for charity loads of stuff left behind by the previous week's holiday-makers. This stuff is practically new and can be picked up for a fraction of the price. Ask your rep when these will be taking place.

One further tip. If you are planning to eat in the beer garden, which is at the end of the road from the hotel. Don't do it on the first night as we did. The morning after you arrive, you will pay your Ecotax at Reception and will get a discount card. The only useful discount is for the Beer Garden where you can save upto 50%!

All in all, we found the Pins to be an excellent place to stay for an out of season holiday and would certainly go back. I suspect, however, that in peak season it would be overcrowded and less desirable.

Recently returned from Alcudia Pins on the 17th Aug 02. 2 Adults 2 kids 10 and 12 and a baby. I must say some people are easily pleased!!! We booked this holiday in May 01 after scouring all the brochures we eventually found a one bedroomed hotel the Pins!! (The pits as I called it!)as we really did not fancy all being squashed in one room. When we arrived after a 2hr transfer (the brochure says 1hr) we opened our room on the 2nd floor (after requesting ground floor)to find a room barely big enough to sleep 2 adults never mind 2 kids and a baby too, after wiping away the tears we managed to squash the cot that was practically in the kitchen area!! into the so called bedroom - and Airtours still had the cheek to charge us under occupancy! I have to say this hotel is much too overated for what it is the food was Ok, the sun bed get your towels on at 6am or pay 10 euros for 2 beds and a parasol on the beach was a joke! Oh and dont even try to attempt to get round the pool with a buggy not unless you want sighs and stares from people when you have to ask them to move their sunbeds so you can get past as they are that cramped in you cannot even get into the pool!! The entertainment was quite good on an evening although there wasnt much else to do, apart from to into Alcudia which had shops like you would find on Blackpool front, dont bother queing for a bus as once the bus comes people just run to the front anyway - get a taxi approx 7 euros. Prices in the resort were artificially inflated - if you are taking a baby make sure you take plenty of nappies in fact plenty of everything you need for a baby unless you want to pay 4 times as much!! The arcade room in the hotel was also double price as arcades off site and the bouncy castle is 1.95 euros for five minutes!! This is supposed to be a super family first and a Suncentre you dont expect to have to pay over the odds for things when you get there. We felt that the Airtours Reps were very inexperienced and unhelpfull. Overall we felt that we had been ripped off as we spent alot of money on this holiday needless to say we wont be going back!!

I thought the hotel was really clean and tidy i had no problem with the staff or anything. The entertaiment was brill. During the day i enjoyed staying around the pool because they would stick activities on for the children in the pool. I also liked the fact that we were right next to the beach so you could go down there and then go right back to the pool afterwards.
The weather when we went was brill it was between 70-100 degreess C most days. The best show i saw when i was over there in the hotel was the grease show that was brill. I hope you still show that show because i think other people would enjoy it aswell. The staff were really helpfull and they were nice they would help u with things if you needed help ect. The food was nice but you would have the same every day so i think you should do different menus for 2 weeks not just the one. But over all i was really pleased with the way the hotel was keepet and run.

This was my 7th year at the good old alcudia pins , I have been going there every year since I was 8. throught out the years the hotel has improved for example the addition of air conditioning, televisions and the up grading of the well maintained rooms. The staff are in a leage of there own when it comes to entertainment, the first two years I was there , the entertainers were John and Phil, I can still feel the pain in my sides for laughing at them they complimented each other to a T. The staff are so friendly and will help you out with anything, I began to get Friendly and getting on first name tearms with the staff maybe because i was just a child but my mother said the exact same as me about them. I would love to go back to Alcudia Pins but My friends would rather go to the clubbing sort of place .I loved the fact that if you wanted to go to the beach it was letterly 20 steps from the pool edge. Honestly. Which is also great for the beach lovers who go on holiday with the pool lovers.
