our first holiday abroad with the kids.appartment was very clean, towels changed and beds made 5 out of 7 days, floors mopped daily.cooking facilities basic.found a nice family run restaurant just across the road--la oca. reasonably priced food and wonderful coffees. location just away from harbour -about 10 min walk.the staff were fantastic especially the entertainment staff who worked from 10am with the activities, until midnight with the evening entertainment!their enthusiasm was incredible the kids loved all four of them- annika, lin ,humberto and hannah. they even took the kids for a full day so the adults had some time out.we went into cuitadella, to do some shopping, a lovely ferry port with some lovely bars and gift shops. also the place to buy your tobacco to take home. the kids cant wait to go back again. plenty of loungers not many reserved at the crack of dawn!. , a lifeguard was on duty every day, to attend minor cuts and grazes. all the pool and bar staff worked just as hard, at the pool cafe by day and at the bar by night . all the children given diplomas in the evening for the games they won in the daytime (adults got them too!!!) .

First time visit to Menorca and stayed at the Viva Menorca.

We were very impressed by the cleanliness and the layout.

The staff were extremely friendly.

We stayed in block 1.
Air conditioning worked perfectly.
Only slight problem from road noise but the road was not too busy and patio doors kept most of the noise out.

The gardens were well kept and attended to every day.

The room was cleaned 5 times a week with towels changed every other day.

The buffet style food was excellent with different types of fish available each day and freshly cooked pancakes and omeletes avalable for breakfast.

We would say the this hotel would suit families with children.

The entertainment we found to be good some days and average others. The hotel entertainers were always organizing games and certificates were handed out at the kids mini disco for the childrens events

We would definitely return to the Viva Menorca and were sad to leave.

This was our first time in Menorca and we were not disappointed. Beautiful island, small and quiet. The Viva Menorca gives a good first impression and keeps it up. I am VERY fussy (!) and had NO complaints, had read that the air con was rubbish but found it to be fine. The only minor detail was the lack of kettle, but after asking the rep for one the Viva's manager bought one for us! The pool area was clean and the life guard went round leaving 40 mins warnings on people's sunbeds if they were gone for too long. We saw him take the towels off people's beds and give the beds to people who were waiting. This is the first time I have ever seen this done, no matter what the policy states in various hotels.

We ate out every night, found the local area to be disappointing really, no shops to speak of and the restaurants poor quality. Particularly FIESTA, a Mexican restaurant....although more like a fast food chain. We sat down to eat and were thrown our first course in record time...no way was this cooked to order. We were still chewing our food when the main course arrived. And it was not cooked properly. When I told the manager he got really nasty, and said they'd cook it further. As if! I told hom we would pay for the 1st course and drinks and he reluctantly accepted this, we were also told by other people at the Viva of similar experiences. So BEWARE!!!!

Another minor detail but may be of interest, you can't smoke in enclosed places in Spain anymore, not a problem really as most things are outdoors, and you can only buy cigarettes from Tobacconists now. So no cigs from supermarkets etc, in fact you have to go to Cituedella for them now! I went on Sat night and they were shut as they were on Sundays too. Hope this is useful to people! Would recommend the Viva if you like a quiet holiday.

The rooms in this complex were cleaned regularly, towels changed as often as required. The only problem we had with our room was as mentioned in other reviews the "air conditioning" Air conditioning was a major factor in choosing the Viva menorca but it was rubbish after talking to other people on our holiday it seemed to be only the block that we were staying in had this problem (block2). Our children made friends and went into other apartments they said theirs worked fine. We did get some compensation but it spoilt what would have otherwise been a perfect holiday.

The food was great with plenty of choice and the service was very friendly.

The pool was nice but very crowded but only a short walk to the beach. Around the pool they had games for all ages which encouraged the children, even teenagers to mix without making it awkward for them.

Viva Menorca is an attractive location for families with young children. The apartments are well-planned and quite spacious, but 'showing their age' a little 5 or six years after the last refurb.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Pool area get very crowded and contains too many chairs. Poolside food average quality and expensive. Restaurant food (tried once) average, but does not compete well with harbour restaurants which are generally good.

Evening entertainment very poor. Also beware of reserving a 'poolside' apartment as these are very near the stage where it can be noisy into the early hours of the morning.

Most beach resorts in Menorca are newly developed over the last twenty years or so, and have very little historic culture. However saying this we were pleasantly surprised how clean the Island was, and general very nice. History is best found in the two main cities.

We hired a car and toured the whole Island and was pleased to report that Caln Bosch was the best choice.
Fornells was also very pleasant with enough restaurants and quite bars to fill a 7 day holiday, and set in a picturesque bay.

Viva Menorca despite the name is very good, 5mins walk to the rocky coast and 15 mins walk to the lovely sandy beach nr the Marina. The pool area is excellent and very attractive as are the Palm trees and gardens. There are various hotel activities but these are low key and its up to you if you want to take part, as they are not thrown in your face.

There are several restaurants, and food shops nearby, but we found it best to stroll down to the marina to eat and shop. This is a purpose built marina some years ago, but is very pleasant to walk round day or specially in the evening. We used to Eat or drink sitting outside and watch the boats / holiday makers, which was very relaxing as you can see right round the Marina with all its boats and lights.

Ignore what people say about the beach being small its NOT.(its a bay inlet and can accomodate a lot of people). Walk across the fine sandy beach which is just down from the Marina outlet, over the rocks and in 10mins you are on the next lovely sandy beach. As you walk near to this beach you will find sandy areas in between the rocks suitable for individual family sunbathing. Keep walking on the coastal path for app 2 hrs and you will discover a large beautiful idilic white sandy beach almost deserted as there are no roads down to it.

We would go back as there is plenty to do and see, especially coastal walks. However this will be a while as there are lots more resorts out there to visit............

The rooms were comfortable and with nice facilities. We stayed in block 1 which was on the other side of the road next to the restaurant and away from the entertainment.

The location of the apartments was good, about 5 mins walk from the harbour and about 15 mins walk from the second beach which was better than the nearest beach.

The evening entertainment was not brilliant but you have to give the staff 10/10 for trying.

Do not miss out on trying the buffet in the restaurant it was the best food we had all week.

Hotel staff excellent couldn't do enough for you and very friendly. We are already thinking about coming back next year.

The first thing I would say is that although we wouldn't totally rule out visiting the Viva Menorca again (provided the price was right), it certainly isn't worthy of the 4 Star/Sun rating given it. I would consider that even at very best it is only worth a 3 Star rating.

Cleanliness around the hotel is reasonable, but although our room was cleaned on 5 of our 7 days, not a great deal of effort was made and the balcony was not touched once; considering the dirt washed off the structure above the balcony during a couple of showers, and mess deposited by some of the sparrows the only way to use the balcony is to clean it yourself.

The room itself was reasonably well equipped (kettle/toaster/microwave etc. for those who may want to cook), but views were of the rest of the horseshoe shaped block albeit with a well maintained garden in the short space between. Balconies have no overhead cover although the structure above them suggests they were intended to, the cover would not detract from any sun that manages to filter into the horseshoe but would be useful for a wet day when the balcony is useless. Size of toilet pans/positioning of seat and cover are not intended for the tall/very tall. The Air Conditioning (which no doubt is one of the items supposedly making it 4 star) was totally ineffective, sensibly patio doors must be shut before it will operate but you would get cooler by leaving the fridge door open! Response from Reception staff was "we have a problem with the air conditioning all over the hotel" (said with a broad smile!).

The satellite TV was a waste of time for the English, the First Choice brochure may say "Limited Channels" but you would still expect to receive at least one station on which you could keep abreast of UK news while readying for dinner or some entertainment on a wet day. In fact the Channel List provided by the Hotel even stated that channel 6 should be Sky TV ... it wasn't, in fact it was a German channel making a total of 6 German language channels including German cartoons for the kiddies, whereas the 2 English language ones consisted of Eurosport and CNN (very useful if you want news and weather for the USA). The missing Sky TV channel (on the hotel's own list) was also reported to reception on our first day and then after no action to the rep a day later; it still didn't exist when we left which is totally pathetic ... I have been in 2 star hotels that had far better TV facilities.

I'm afraid we cannot comment on the hotel food as we eat out for all meals.

For those familiar with Cala'n Bosch the hotel is located on the left immediately after turning left from the main road in toward the town. This means about a 10 minute walk into the Marina area where the vast majority of the shops and restaurants are, although there are a few just across the other side of the main road which are just a minute or two away.

Hotel staff were polite but my lasting impression will be their failure to address either the Air Conditioning or Sat TV failings; the very type of extra facilities that contribute toward their supposed 4 Star rating.

Entertainment is mainly aimed at the children with the only other entertainment being very amateurish.

The fairly large pool and surrounding area with it's bar/cafe was attractive with mostly sufficient sunbeds and a lifeguard.

This is the third time that I have been coming to menorca over the past five years, but this is the first time that I have stayed in these apartments.

If I was to fault them the only thing that I could say is that the apartment itself was on the small side, but as we were only sleeping there it didn't make much difference to us as we ate out every night there are so many restaurants on the marina and they are all very good, the marina being a five minute walk.

We stayed in block two which was kept to a high standard
of cleanliness which I myself is very fussy.

The staff were lovely and very friendly and spoke very good English.

The food on the complex was excellent, and if you want you can purchase breakfast and evening meal over the seven days that you stay and as I love my food I highly recommend that you do.

The entertainment was good something going on all the time for the children the little ones love it.

As for visiting these apartments again I would love to go back any time these are the best I have stayed in on Menorca, so roll on next year.

I have twin girls aged 13 and they loved it here.

We stayed in the Viva Menorca on a self catering basis although the option to go half board was available we used the local supermarkets and ate out a the local restaurants.

Our room was cleaned 5 out of 7 days and even though we were happy to re-use our towels they were changed each day. We didn't leave our room till after midday most days and our room was still nicely cleaned when we returned.

The location of the hotel is quite quiet but don't be put off as the marina is a 10 min stroll away with lots to see and do.

Staff were very friendly and as I don't speak a word of Spanish they were quite happy to converse in English. we had one minor problem when the light bulb blew in our bathroom (which had no windows) but this was quickly resolved within 2 hours.

We didn't stay in for the entertainment but often caught the end of the shows on our way in. The entertainment looked well organised and most acts were well worth watching.

My partner and I would definitely visit the Viva again and were very sad when our week was over!
