Spent Christmas 2002 in this hotel. We found it to be a reasonable hotel by Spanish standards.

Room: The hotel room we were given was very spacious with a king-size bed, we were given our request which was to be on a low floor. The room was very clean, fresh bedding and towels as well as pool towels (which you had to pay 1.20 euros to get clean ones).

Meals: The food in the hotel was mostly good, our main gripe was that the food wasn't labeled, therefore some dishes which were covered in sauce or batter couldn't be identified as meat or fish. We did bring the matter to the management attention on more than one occasion, however our efforts were in vain as there were no changes made (it didn't help that the maitre looked like a serial killer and we were afraid to say too much to him incase he took major offence!) The Christmas day meal was a total flop, it was to be a la carte and most courses were sea food, we spoke to our rep who organized an alternative (for many guests not just us) however when we arrived at the restaurant the table for 2 we had booked was actually a table for 4 and we ended up sitting with strangers even though we protested quite strongly to this. The 'alternative' menu the rep had booked turned out to be prawn soup, which we obviously had to decline seeing as eating sea-food was the problem. Many people left the restaurant, we actually went without a great deal of food as we couldn't get anyone to bring us the meals which had been arranged. However the wine and champagne was flowing freely and we filled up on that! We complained to the rep the next day as the Maitre refused to come and see us during the meal. We were given a voucher for the La Choza restaurant for a lunch time meal.

Pool area: The pool area was quite spacious but very limited for all day sun space. There were plenty of sun beds but the best areas for sun were crowded. In the morning the maids were seen cleaning the terrace areas but it was only cleaned where the eye could see, and when the sunbeds were pulled into place the dirt around the beds was disgusting, there were flies and ants. The pools were very clean there was a heated pool which got quite busy as the other pool which was the deeper pool and better for swimming wasn't heated and was freezing.

Bars/entertainment: The bar prices in the hotel were good and actually in our own experience was cheaper than the bars outside. I drink dry white wine and I found the wine in the hotel a much better quality than in outside bars. The entertainment in the hotel was a little hit-and-miss, there was a guy one evening who did Lionel Richie and similar who was very good, yet another evening there was a motown/Diana Ross and the Supremes type act and they were pretty suspect. I couldn't comment on the daytime animation programme as I prefer to sun bathe!

Resort: The resort of Playa Del Inglés has quite a lot to offer the hotel in situated in a excellent spot for walking to different areas. There are many centers as this resort does not have one particular high street. These centers by day are shopping centers and by night turn in to the evenings entertainment, with endless bars, restaurants, markets, artists, craft stalls, fair rides arcades etc. However this is a place you need to keep your wits about you, not just the African Ladies, blokes offering drugs and annoying touts but walking back to the hotel through sometimes quiet dimly lit streets there were sometimes quite un-savoury characters hanging around. An excellent trip is to Palmitos Park.

All-in-all we wanted winter sunshine so the Canaries is the nearest place to get it. Would we go back? Yes to another Island (Lanzorote xmas 03) Our favorite place so far is Cyprus as it has what we look for in a holiday. We try not to compare to much to our favorite destination and as I began this report the hotel is reasonable by Spanish standards.

gran canaria princess

have just returned form GCP. Went with Mum ( who,s 82), my sister (52), her daughter (25), and me (!). Got the holiday cheap with a late availability. First impressions - not bad. Arrived at 1 am, then had to unload our own cases from coach, then queue up to book in for 40 min. Got to room just before 2am. Breakfast is the best meal of the day. Although I have to say there is a wide variety of food for dinner, it,s just that it was all very bland or fishy!!!!! Rooms a bit dated but very clean. Found that all the serving staff in the restaurant and the main bar at night were VERY officious. didn,t want to talk or anything. Caberet in the evening was just like you would expect to see in Butlins. The check in from the hotel for home was the most brilliant idea ever. Swimming pool great, although saw quite a few older people struggling to get there sun beds down from huge piles, with no help available. Oh - and we got reprimanded for riotous behaviour one night because we found out that the bar should have stayed open till 2 am, and we were all being asked to leave at about 12.30 every night , so we told all the english guests and refused to leave the bar till 2 am. The bar manager was so worried that he gave our party 2 bottles of cheap champagne, and then reported us to the reps. Still my sons are very proud that ther mum can still "swing it" and my mum (82 ) is the talk of the oap lunch club. DEFINATLEY NOT a platinum hotel, but a good 3*, but don,t pay full price, wait for late availability.

The hotel is really nice and posh. the pool is amazing and the pictures in the holiday brochures do not do it justice.

the food was different every night, and whilst we were there the hotel was in the process is doing up the restaurant. however, the work was kept to a minimum and did not disturb the guests and it was not an inconvenience. the food at breakfast was not particularly good - the bacon was streaky and the suasages looked like they had not been cooked.

the beach was quite a walk away - especially in the heat. however, taxis are cheap and it is very easy to flag one down. having said this though, we did stay around the pool most of the time.

there are many bars in th resort, all of which seem to be in shopping centres. we went to the GRAN CHAPPERAL centre most nights. here is full of british bars with some entertainment. also, the beer is cheap - about 1 euro for a pint (about 60p)!!!!! men be warned of the YUMBO centre - this is full of gays and is apparently the second largest centre in europe. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

the rooms in the hotel are clean, but perhaps a little dated. however, the reception area and the bars are very nice.

all in all, would definitely go back. was well worth the money!

this hotel is excellent.

if you want a hotel that is full of activities, this is the one to go to. the entertainment staff cater for all ages during the day and at night, they cater for children in the early evening and older audiences later on. the entertainment is different every night of a 2 week holiday, which is great. during the day there is many activities hosted by the very comitted entertainment staff.

the swimming pool is great for the children, a shallow bit and then a deeper bit.

the food cannot be faulted, it is excellent. there is a waiter service, which is fast and appropriate. there is also a buffet service which some of the food is prepared infront of you. the desserts are out of this world. they are fabulous.

the rooms are lovely and again cannot be faulted.

the only advice that i would give to people looking to go to this hotel is to get a taxi to the beach because it is a long walk down hill on the way. if you go out in the evening, you might be caught by people advertising things but you need to keep walking.

this hotel overall is rated for me 10/10!!!

The cleanliness of the hotel was very near excellent except as i was holidaying with my friends family and we were 17 was that the maids didnt think that we needed to be cleaned as much as adults so our room was left whereas everyone elses was cleaned.
The food in the La Choza was fine just nice snacks but in the restaurant in the evening there was a choice of fish or more fish! the only thing that i eat for dinner in the 2 weeks there was spag bol as this was the only thing that i knew didnt contain fish! Hotel location was ideal not too far from bars or pubs!
The hotel staff were not the most helpful or friendliest as me and my friend were frouned upon as we wanted to ejoy ourselves at the age of 17 i agree that you can get a bit rowdy but there was only 2 of us not a whole gang but the way the staff behaved you would have thought that we were 18-30 groupies, we got told off as soon as we were there for having music playing which wasnt extreamly loud and it was other holidaymakers that complained it was the maids yet when the maids did eventually clean our room they then decided that they liked our choice in music by playing what they wanted with no permission to do so! I wouldn't visit this hotel again as i like enjoying my holiday not wanting to come home as the staff wanted us to be like toy soliders! I would recommend this hotel as a saga holiday but anything less choose somewhere else like the El Palmerol sol bungalows in maspolomas absoutly fantastic!!!

The Gran Canaria Princess is a fantastic hotel, it is close to the three main shopping centres and about a ten minute walk to the beach. For the first few days while we were there the restuarant was being redone and the food was dire but aterwards it improved. In The previous hotels that we had been to we had to get up early and get the sunbeds but at the gcp we did nt have to worry cos there were plenty to choose from. the rooms were comfortable although they could do with being updated but there were very roomy. The reception staff are great and cater for your every need.the resort is fantastic we never got bored once. the thomson reps are great and i would recomment going to the welcome meeting.the best places on th island to visit are, the ater park, yumdo centre, puerto rico, puerto morgan and amadores beach. I envy anyone going to the GCP
