Well before we travelled we checked all about the hotel on the web. The reviews were not all that good. To be honest we were a little dubious about the holiday through this. We needn't of been as when we got there the hotel was first class all the way.

Food was excellent, hotel staff helpful and friendly, situated in an ideal spot.

The shop in the hotel has a very nice man in and the prices are reasonable too. All in all we had a very pleasant stay in Fuengirola and would go back.

Liked the hotel as it is yards from the beach. The breakfast was fine, though I can

Had a lovely stay here in November 2004, for some reason we were upgraded to a suite and not just a normal room which was excellent. The room was magnificent, the only problem being the view which was partially obscured by the residential blocks in the same design as the hotel.

The food was very good for a buffet style always hot and not just English food, and as for the desert area, I had trouble keeping my wife away from it!

The location of the hotel is at the far end of the resort near the castle which suited us fine as we like it peaceful

We found the staff pleasant and courteous at all times and they were always very helpful, mind you the hotel was quite empty, so this may have had something to do with it. the entertainment in the evening was just right, it was there but not intrusive

We would quite gladly stay here again and recommend it to others

Just got back from holiday staying at the Las Piramides hotel. We found this hotel in our opinion superb.

The entertainment of an evening was non existant except for a man who played the piano but it was right with this type of hotel. The entertainment or sports guy of a day was brilliant, he was around the poolside trying to get people to join in table tennis, boulles etc. The same guy ran Spanish lessons and did the bingo,(I only tried this once for my mums sake!)it was the best laugh I have ever had playing bingo what a good sport he was there was only 7 people playing!

Indoor heated swimming pool was heaven.

The hotel was spotless, the staff were lovely, the maid was in everyday the rooms as always were immaculate.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted a quiet week and just to be pampered.

We went half board, the meals were self service and very good for hotel food. There was no fighting to get round the carousel either.

We would most certainly be going back.

Las Piramides is a 4* hotel that was very clean and well run. It has an obvious Egyptian theme as the entrance is shaped like a glass pyramid and there are Egyptian artefacts, sphynx etc. but the other parts of the hotel look more like a baronial hall with huge light fittings that would look more at home in a castle as well as wooden panelling. There are plenty of large sofas and armchairs to sit in when it's hot outside and a piano bar with a happy hour every evening. There was a shop selling belts, shoes and souvenirs, a hairdresser and one computer with internet access. There is an outdoor and an indoor pool and there was always a queue to get into the outdoor pool as the gates weren't opened until 9.30. The sign said there was to be no reserving of sunbeds but I believe it still went on.

All the corridors and the hotel rooms are carpeted which meant that there was no noise at night. Any noise there was came from the entertainment which was held in the "square" between the two blocks, which was where the breakfasts were served. The acts were groups who played music, mostly Spanish or flamanco dancers so don't expect any English comedians. The breakfasts had a selection of cold meats, fruit, toast, a couple of cerials and coffee and fruit juice (very watered down) The evening meal was in a different restaurant and was buffet service, although after giving your room number you had to wait to be seated by the waiter. The food was good, especially the salads as there was always a large selection. The cooked food was various meats but the vegetables to accompany them were somewhat disappointing as there was sometimes only one sort (ok if you like brocolli with your chips!) We always drank bottled water although we didn't enquire the price of the bottles of wine but knew we could get a drink cheaper down the road.

The room was excellent, being quite spacious with two "single" beds although they looked more like 3' rather than 2.6". There was plenty of wardrobe space, (although it could have done with more coathangers) The dressing table had drawers for storage and there were full length mirrors on the wardrobe and on the wall, as well as a large mirror in the bathroom. There was some very welcome air conditioning which could be controlled from the room. The television had a few channels including English news. The balcony is only large enough for two chairs and a small patio table but was OK for having a quiet sit down in the evening. There was a quite good view of the beach, two parts of it between a tower block but enough to see what was going on without having to stand on a chair or crane your neck! It depends on which block you are in and which side I suppose as some people would have had a better view than others, especially if you were on higher floors. Anyone with a lower floor room would have had a restricted view. Our room was on the 6th floor and didn't get the evening sun which would have been nice. The maid ususally came in in the afternoon but there didn't seem to be as many as we have seen in other hotels, perhaps because the hotel wasn't full.

The hotel is not in the main part of Fuengirola but near the castle but is still within walking distance of all the bars etc. The beach is just across a road and there are several bars and shops nearby.

We would definitely go back to this hotel and would book it through the accommodation agency again rather than direct with the hotel which would have been quite a bit more expensive.

We stayed at the Hotel Las Piramides in Fuengirola in June 2004. On arrival the reception area was pleasantly cool (it was hot outside)with plenty of comfortable sofas dotted about to sit on. The booking in procedure did not take very long and we were required to leave one passport at reception which could be retrieved in 24 hours.
Our room was ready and we took one of the two lifts to the seventh floor. The lifts are small and uncomfortably hot (hard luck if you have the slightest degree of claustrophobia!)

Our room was clean and functional. Two single beds, bedside tables, mirrored wardrobe, telephone, dressing table, two chairs, television which was plugged into the only plug in that room (a bit annoying when you wanted to charge up your mobile phone or use your own hairdryer). You could hire a safe for 31 euros (10 euro deposit returned on departure). Biggest grouse, the balcony. Very, very small, just big enough for 2 white patio chairs and a small drinks table. Calling it a sea view was stretching the imagination, if you call a small triangle of water between two high rise buildings when you crane your neck a sea view then it was!

Bathroom was fine, bath with overhead power shower, bidet, toilet and large sink, there was also the usual hotel hairdryer, the only other plug was in here.

No complaints about cleanliness, the maid came in every day and the room was clean and tidy when we returned and never less than 3 toilet rolls in the bathroom! One thing I will mention here, my husband returned to the room one day and our and our neighbours doors were both wide open. Apparently the locks were faulty. This was dealt with immediately and never happened again.

The food was typical hotel food, neither good nor bad but certainly edible. More choice for meat eaters like me, less for vegetarians like my husband.Breakfast was a choice of cooked, with things like scrambled egg, sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms etc, continental, rolls butter, croissants, cakes, continental cold meats, continental sausages, cereals. You could make your own toast on a cracking machine that was really quick. There was orange juice, milk and water in one machine, then tea or coffee in another The maitre'd was fab, ran the place like clockwork, and it was noticeable when he was not there for one day.Evening meals always had some form of meat on the menu, eg chicken, pork, lamb and beef and there was usually a choice of fish too. Plenty of salad stuff and at least a choice of two soups. We took the advice of most people and just had water with our meal, the drinks are expensive.

Another thing to mention here, one evening we arrived for dinner and the young lady on the till asked my husband (not very civilly) whether he had paid his drinks bill the night before (he had!). This was done in front of other guests and my husband felt acutely embarrassed.

The hotel is in a good location, particularly for the beach. It is literally a minute (if not less)walk away. Just up the road is a large supermarket, and there are plenty of bars around for the evening.

Most of the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful, but obviously we did have a couple of problems. The main one was when my husband tried to retrieve his passport from reception, it was not there, and worse, they tried to give him someone else's. The receptionist was worse than useless and caused my husband a sleepless night of stress and worry. The next day was not much better, again reception was unhelpful, it was my husband who had to suggest various strategies to try and find the missing passport. The Direct Holiday rep was great. She got involved and things started to happen. My husband was just on his way to the police station when I got a phone call to say that the passport had been found. We later found out, from the man himself, that he had only found out it was not his passport when he tried to book a hire car, and hethen went immediately to reception to hand the passport back. He looked absolutely nothing like my husband, it doesn't take much to look at a photo and ask for confirmation of a name does it?

I think I have been quite generous giving the staff a 3 rating now I come to think of it, however, it seems a shame to tar them all with the same brush.

I have been a bit hard with my entertainment marking but it just wasn't to my taste.

All in all we would probably go back to the hotel but not to Fuengirola, however that is a different story!
