Although rated five star, the hotel was probably no better than a four star.
The hotel was clean, the staff very helpful except for one girl behind the reception desk who appeared to think that British tourists were not worth dealing with.
The choice of food was good although not always identified which meant that I did not try a lot of the Tunisian dishes.
The bar prices were on a par with all the restuarants in the resort. i.e. Beer

All hotel areas were spotless, including the pool area and the water in the poole is tested weekly.

The food was a bit repetitive but i allways found something which i liked and it was well cooked.

The managers at the hotel all wear suits and they were constantly walking round the hotel making sure that the high standards were kept up.

Brilliant location near the beach and the Marina.

Excellant and not to pushy for a tip.

The daytime activities went down well with everyone, especially the water areobobics with carlos.

I will be at the resort next year which will be my third visit

We have just returned from the Melia El Mouradi Palace Hotel in Port El Kantaoui. After reading rather scathing reports on the Internet about this hotel, we went with an open mind, and were not disappointed. The Hotel had a very pleasant reception area, and we were given a welcome drink on arrival. We had paid for a sea view, and our room also overlooked the pool. The room was clean, although the carpet was looking a little shabby, and the doors were a little bit knocked about, but otherwise the room was clean, as was the bedlinen and towels, which were changed on a daily basis.

The outdoor and indoor swimming pools were clean, and there was no pressure for sunbeds, and plenty of space to move them around. The areas around the pool were always being cleaned.

There was nothing wrong with the food. We had no upset stomachs for the whole week. There were separate sittings for evening meals, but we did not find this to be a problem, as our sitting was 8.00 p.m. There was plenty of choice of meats etc. There was always chips with another type of potato available every evening. There was always three types of soup available and numerous types of desserts, including ice cream and fresh strawberries.

In relation to the breakfasts, there was no bacon, beans or mushrooms, but there was always omelettes of your choice cooked fresh, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs and freshly cooked fried eggs, cerals and toast. If people expect typically English food they need to go to Mainland Spain or the Little Chef!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return again in the future.

We stayed at El Mauradi Palace hotel. Reception area was presentable, however the furniture in the bedroom was a bit shabby and therefore does not justify the hotel being given 5 star status. Wide variety of food was provided, however, it all seemed rather basic and did not taste entirely fresh. Plenty of cake choice was available, however, they all tasted the same and we soon got fed up with the same old thing day after day.
Bar staff were rather unfriendly and rather pushy. Drinks were rather higly price especially the soft drintks, for which we were having to pay 8 dinars (

We have just returned from a pleasant holiday at the El Mouradi Palace. Although advertised as a 5* hotel, it certainly isnt my idea of 5*. This is probably more to do with the expectation of the tour operators rating than the official one. If you are used to Dubai 5*, or even Canary islands, you will be slightly disappointed. I would give it a 3* maximum.

The rooms are dated, and as other reviewers noted the cleanliness wasn't the best. The cleaners were there all day but seemed to do very little. The outdoor pool is very cold at this time of the year, but the indoor pool is nicely heated. Both however could do with being cleaned more often. This seems to be a general comment for all areas of the hotel.

The food - awful. We expected a buffet, but had no idea that it would be done by way of seperate sittings. Once you have chosen your sitting you are stuck with it. The staff were ok. Some better than others. Avoid the easter weekend, and I expect any national holidays as the hotel fills up with locals. We had a tough time getting food, plates, service etc over the 3 days from Friday to Sunday.

The children had a great time, and the weather was warm and most of the time sunny, although there was quite a wind most days.

All in all we enjoyed our holiday but would probably not return to that particular hotel, and probably not Tunisia.

We are a middle aged + couple and chose this venue for a quick pick-me-up prior to Easter. Room type was fine although looking a little tired. Sea view was appreciated. Cleanliness was questinable, quite a lot of spray used but for example, nail clippings left by accident in ash tray not removed and 1 left on floor never remove despite vacuum outside room.
Numerous staff involved in cleaning.

On arrival, washbasin was cracked the whole way from front to back (our room was changed following request)

Food was buffet style as advertised. One of our pleasures is good quality food, but it was served in motorway cafe style in a hurry. Only tunisian wine available. Choice was considerable but food on the whole very basic and left far too long in containers.
Cold table with basic salads; soup area; "stews" area - rice, veal, beef ; overcooked veg, fish, mashed potato and the inevitable chips; some fresh dishes; sometimes a speciality like couscous; plenty of deserts; one evening, cheese. Children appeared to enjoy the food. There was an indecent haste in clearing plates.

Location was magnificent with 5 minute walk through gardens to the beach. Safe surroundings for all which was refreshing.

Hotel staff on the whole were welcoming although tips were never far from their agenda. A few staff were rude (from my point of view)but clearly, there's is a different culture. Waiters in small Coffee bar where snacks could be purchased need more training in serving etiquette (Not to drag end of coat sleeve across a plate of food or reach over)
Entertainment was taking place nightly. We attended the Special night in the A La Carte Restaurant (which we could have used more). One belly Dancer performed and this was OK. Others who attended evening entertainment appeared to find it just acceptable. There was plenty of staff to entertain children in the day.

We would not visit again as the basic things which make a holiday for us were not satisfactory BUT, it could be that you get what you pay for. Sadly, on the night of my return, 4/04/04,having landed at Manchester, I began vomiting and have been suffering from severe gastro enteritis. I am told by my GP that there is an identified virus in tunisia. Was it the ice? Edwina our Rep advised this was safe.

Firstly think people should remember that Tunisia (and some other countries)5 star is not the same as our 5 star.

Yes the rooms, some of them were a little tired, but they were spacious with great views and very very clean.

the staff, in particular the entertainment staff were fantastic. They worked very hard and made sure everyone was happy and looked after without being in your face, yes occasionally you get a sullen face but you get that everywhere.

Suggest some people try the Tunisian wine, it was cheap and it my opinion excellent. Soft drinks worked out about

My family and I loved our holiday to the El Mouradi Palace! I would love to go back and most likely will.

The staff where very friendly and helpful they are very good at looking after the children in the childrens clubs and they have quite a few different things for them to do. It would be better if there was a bit more to do for the teenagers but it was still a very good holiday!!

Really enjoyed this hotel, medium sized, rooms a little tired but spacious. If you have a room on the right, sea view side of the hotel, you may find that a cockerel keeps you awake (may not still be there now). Food and service were great, hotel kids club quiet at this time, but willing to keep kids for a couple of hours a day. Outdoor pools were too cold to swim in, but weather was nice and indoor pool was excellent, so a combination worked. Its right on a beautiful beach, again too cold to swim in, but nice to look at. Port El Kantoui marina was too far to walk to, there is a little row of shops within walking distance for something else to do, but you would need a taxi to anywhere really good. Entertainment was your typical hotel entertainment staff fare - not to our taste, but there was something every night.
