We stayed on a half board basis but we tried to fill ourselfs up at lunch time so we didn't have to eat the dinner. took a child aged two who would only eat chips and fig rolls.

Pool area is very nice.

Went onto the beach and were aproached by the people selling things said"no thankyou" but still wouldn't go, beach patrol soon got rid of him.

The staff are really friendly and helpful.

Although a good hotel would not return as food and location let it down.

Where do I start, well the bedrooms are very old fashioned and dirty. The sheets on the bed have all got stains on. The shower heads are filthy and so is the shower curtain (growing mould).

The restaurant is about the best place. At least it's clean (ish). The reception staff are very ignorant and speak little english. We found them extremely unhelpful. On the good side, the waiters are lovely and will do anything for you, but remember to tip, as they rely on tips to make some money.

Also the maids work very, very hard and get little gratitude so please leave a tip at the end of your stay, because they do their best with what they have to clean. Entertainment is ok.

The team work hard, day and night, it's aerobics, darts and water polo in the day and bingo, kids disco and a show at night. A bit boring but you can go to different hotel if you are feeling brave enough to walk.

We visited the hotel in May 2006, family of 6. two teenagers, two young adults, two elders, and a 1 year old baby so we were a mixed aged group and we all loved it! The entertainment team were excellent and there was never a dull moment whether pool side or evening. Kimo and Rambo made the evenings and even gave us animation team t shirts when we left. The staff were very friendly and one of the waiters kept us amused with Eddie Murphy impressions all week.

The camera man has been called annoying but was a very good laugh and took some amazing pictures of our family, 1 dinar each, roughly 42p each and you would of thought they were taken in a photography studio.

Location was bit of a let down although right on the beach and lovely it was.

The camel man tried asking for 20 quid just to sit on the camel but i suppose that was to be expected!!

Food..... could not fault a thing, wide selection every evening!

Indoor pool was lovely, like getting into a bath, and plenty to do when raining. Entertainment team kept us amused with bowls and mini golf.

All in all a lovely family holiday and everyone else we spoke to had the same views as us. Definitely recommended hotel.

Skanes El Hana

I have travelled all over world and all over Tunisia for many years and have always been extremely happy with hotels in particular hotels in Tunisia where I have always found staff to be courtious and helpful.

Hotels have always been very clean and food good and I am vegetarian. I have even had a travel kettle repaired at 8pm in the evening no charge but "with pleasure".

Skanes El Hana is a completely different experience and one I would not repeat. I would rather eat my hair!

On arrival waited for 3 hours for room. Reception staff could not care less. Eventually I was waived in the direction of lift, took me ages to find room in dimly lit smelly corridor.

Room was very shabby and dirty as was bathroom. Linen stained and grey and worn out. Water dripped out of shower so impossible to wash hair. Did not unpack. If you want to lose weight this is the place I'm surprised the flies put up with it. Table wobbled and to sit down other person on table had to get up from their seat.

Sewerage came up the loo following day. Had already decided to ask to be transferred to another hotel so I joined the queue to see rep. Fortunately was able to transfer to another hotel with around 12 other people the following day.

I shared taxi to Sousse with another guest but I would have walked there with trolley and bag to escape this place.

If this was my first visit to Tunisia I would not return. I am astonished the Skanes El Hana is still in brochures. 4 star in any country no way.

Staying in Skanes El Hana was a pleasure and one I'd be quick to repeat! Reading some of the nastier reviews, I couldn't believe they were talking about the same hotel.

From the moment we got there (after 5 minutes on a coach from the airport-which was much appreciated as the flight was delayed!) I knew we'd chosen the right place. I wasn't proven wrong.

All through the week the staff were as friendly as ever and always ready to help, with the exception of the Reception staff who could have been a bit more cheerful but thankfully we didn't have much cause to deal with them.

The entertainment staff in particular were unbelievable. They worked very long hours but always smiled and played with all the kids, never looking tired. They put on a show every night-any speaking parts (of which there weren't too many) were done in all languages that were spoken by current guests. The lads sometimes had up to 6 languages to speak but it never appeared to faze them. Entertainment was planned to cater to all nationalities-therefore limiting them but all acts were done with such enthusiasm that you always enjoyed your night.

Other staff, such as waiters, became part of the experience, stopping to chat and remembering names etc., making a lot of effort. Tipping is part of it but you need only tip as much as you want, keep in mind that Tunisia is still a relatively poor country and what may seem like a pittance to Europeans may make a lot of difference in the pocket of a Tunisian.

I've only been home less than a week but I really wish I was still there!

The best thing about my week in Tunisia was coming home after losing 5 pounds in weight!

The food was horrible and I knew what starving people felt like.

The men were not very nice there

Chefs smoking while preparing food

no entertainment no facilities no normal alcohol

altogether worst week of my life

Beautiful beach though

This hotel is most definitly not a 4 star. Would be lucky to be a 2 ( by Tunisian standards )reception was clean but there the cleanliness ended.

The food was tasteless and not much variety over 14 days. The dining room was crammed full of tables and chairs which left you no space to collect your food.

Location was fairly quiet and plenty cheap transport to other areas.

The reception staff ( men ) were not helpful to new arrivals, they just did not seem to care...and if you had a complaint you would get a different answer from each member of staff you spoke to, but the end result was the same, nothing done about it.

Entertainment was very poor, not suited to older patrons. Bar prices were atrocious.

We would not go to this hotel again, there are 2 lifts but only one ever seems to work..would not recommend this hotel.

After reading the reviews here, my husband and I were horrified and really wanted to cancel. We tried to change hotels a couple of weeks before we left but Panorama refused saying that they had not any complaints about this hotel.

El Hana is only 5 mins from the airport but there is hardly any airport noise at all. The reception area was lovely and clean and spacious as were the dining room and toilets. The food on half-board was excellent with plenty of choice and caters for European taste. Out waiter was also lovely and looked after our children (aged 5 and 6). I was worried about the food, and tummy upsets, especially for the children. We are very fussy about hygiene and food, yet despite the children eating all manner of things from the buffet, including ice-cream which I had told them they could not have (because of the ice in it), both were fine all week, as were we. I previously visited Tunisia 18 years ago and spent most of that time in the bathroom! At lunch times we went to the pool bar/restaurant and service was a bit slow at times when they were busy but the food was great, lovely chicken and chips and omelettes.

We found all prices in Tunisia very good value, from drinks and food to souvenirs. A lot of people have mentioned tipping. Tipping is a way of life in many countries, not so much in Europe and if you're not happy to do this, then please stay in Europe!! The sooner you accept it, the better your stay will be. Likewise the beach vendors, this is how they make their living, and if you can't accept this as part of the holiday, then don't go to Tunisia! We went to Monastir on the hotel noddy train - the city is lovely with plenty to see and do. Yes, you will get approached but a firm "No thanks" usually does the trick. There are fixed price tourist shops where you can browse at your leisure, which we thought were excellent value for money.

Our room was in a lovely location overlooking the pool and terrace area. We had a duplex family room. The room was not 4 star standard in terms of comfort - the beds have a concrete base!! The floor/stairs were also just concrete with carpet over the top, and if my children had been any younger, I would have been apprehensive about them falling on this. The bathroom was a little dated, but clean and was kept clean throughout our stay.

All in all, we had a fantastic time although I have to say that the hotel was only half-full and it is probably a different story in the summer months. There were no flies around the food and no problem getting sunbeds etc., but again, this is obviously not going to be the case in July or August. We took a chance with the weather and we had 4 glorious days and 2 overcast ones (it rained on one of them). We would definitely stay at this hotel again and cannot understand some of the comments made by other visitors. This is the first time I have contributed to a website like this, so strongly did I feel that the hotel had been misrepresented.

To anybody who has booked this hotel and is now having second thoughts, don't worry! My husband and I are fussy people and we loved it!

Having read the reviews about this hotel, I just had to put a few people who may have booked to stay here minds at rest.

We have been visiting Tunisia for 15 years, and always try to get at least one week there every year. We do holiday 2 or 3 times a year, but have a particular affinity towards Tunisia, and in particular the Skanes el Hana.

We are going again in May, and we think that this is our 14th visit to the hotel! Which means that we have probably spent the best part of 5 months holiday there.

As for location it is close to the airport, with minimal noise intrusion. In fact when sunbathing it can be a welcome distraction to see planes lining up to approach.
The cleanliness is very good.

The rooms are cleaned daily, and there are clean towels every day, and endless hot water.

If I had to be critical I would say that the hotel would benefit from a re decoration.

Entertainment is limited, but fairly varied, and what it lacks in polish, it makes up for with enthusiasm.

The staff are always friendly and among the nicest we have encountered anywhere in the world. You must remember that we are the strangers and are visiting a country with a completely different culture to our own. We have made many friends in the hotel, and send and receive cards at Christmas and I have received phone calls wishing happy new year etc. In particular I would like to single out a few staff members. Mr Chokri and Zouhair aguir in particular as they always make sure that all our needs are met. A nice touch is Flowers fruit and water on our arrival.

We book the hotel by e mail from home, and arrange our own flights. It works out very reasonable doing it that way.

The food is fairly standard fayre, and would not offend even the most sensitive palate. You will not starve, and as it is buffet service mainly if you do not like something you can always try something else. The waiters are very friendly, and a 10 dinar tip (4.20) at the end of your stay will ensure that you become a life long friend, and when you return you will be welcomed like a long lost relative. Tipping is not insisted on and only do so if you feel that it is deserved.

Drinks tend to be waiter service, and the waiters can be identified by the different coloured waistcoats. We tend to pay for drinks as we go along and a small tip 10-20% dependant on how you feel. The drinks tend to be fairly cheap compared to prices in European hotels, expect to pay Dinar for what a pound buys at home.
Beer 2.2 G&T 3.7 etc......

We will visit again and we have visited with friends and family in the past, and none have come away unhappy.

If anybody finds this helpful I feel that i have done my bit for Tunisia and the Skanes el Hana in particular.
Also please remember that this is still a third world country.
