We couldn't shop properly because all the shopkeepers hassle you to come in to buy from their shop. We had to walk 15 minutes to get to the beach which was all down hill but all up hill on the way back. We resorted to taxis.

Gumbet is lovely. The beach is quite narrow but there are plenty of sunbeds available. Some of which you do not have to pay for. There are plenty of shops in Gumbet and if you want clothes then this is the place. The shop owners give you their price and then you haggle. We found everything very cheap to buy. Around some of the shops are steep hills so for anyone with walking problems I would avoid this resort.
We loved the resort and would visit again but we would stay in Magnific hotel or Jasmin beach hotel as they were recommended to us by a local Turkish guy and when we went to see them we would have to agree.

Great lively resort - plenty to do, see, eat and drink! People are really friendly - yes they will try and get you into their restuarant - but thats their job! So you need to just politey walk on.
Would go back if the world were not such a big place to see!!

First time to Gumbet and I would go back as it pretty much caters for all. I went with a couple of 30+ friends and we were a bit of niche, it was either youngish people (post exam holiday!) or families but that was probably due to the time of year.

We went to Bodrum for a couple of nights. A taxi each way cost 20L about £8 and takes about 15mins. Worth a visit.

Best place to eat is Carpedium (On the beach front) - You must visit here - (Super) Mario runs the show - excellent food and good live music.

The main resort of Gumbet is very clean but the beach outside the Jasmin Beach is disgusting. If you walk a bit further along the beach is much better. If you have a meal in the Carpediem you can use their swimming pool free of charge. It has a slide which is great for the kids. The resort entertainment is designed for people without kids. I don't think I saw any bar advertising anything for children. Turkey is not cheap anymore and please be aware that you are not going to get a bargain. We have been going to Turkey for many years but I will not be returning as it is very expensive now. There are no bargains to be found and check your bill every time you get as they like to "add on" items. We returned 4 bills whilst we were there. They were rectified straight away. Boat trips are not what they seem either. They promise you a visit to a cave where there are hot springs but when you arrive you have to pay extra for this. You are not told this when you book. All inclusive drinks on board and out of plastic cups and sometimes warm!! Gold and leather are no longer cheap so don't think you will get a bargain because you won't. The dolmus was 2.5tl each. The bus comes right outside the hotel and will take you to the main bus station. It is about a 5 minute walk down to the town. There is a fruit and veg market here (At the bus station) which is so cheap and there is also a Tansas (Supermarket) here where you can buy your groceries. Good family restaurants in Gumbet are Windy Bay, Mistrals, Carpedium, Columbia Steak House and don't worry there is a Burger King in the town too. Turkey is no longer cheap so take plenty of money.

We could reach Gumbet with 15 minute walk from the hotel along the beach, which in itself was lovely. We found the people very friendly. The beach was clean and the water crystal clear and reasonably calm for swimming in.Therr were loads of bars and hotels with entertainment catering for all tastes. It felt a really safe place to be.Hopefully we will be back again really soon.

We've now been to Gumbet 3 times. 1993, 1996 and now 2009, and boy what a change! When we went in the 90's there was very little entertainment, but now there are loads and loads of bars. To be honest, I preferred it before, but I'm now a lot older and not so keen on the party scene any more! In saying that, we found some nice little pubs out of the way of the infamous "Bar Street" which were more to our taste. The constant barrage of touts wanting us to visit their restuarant or bar was beginning to grate on meby the end of the holiday. It is VERY tiresome and I was seriously hacked off and intolerant of them. Even walking along the beach was like running the guantlet with these guys and its too much. I understand there is a lot of competition and they need to earn a living but this is seriously off-putting for holidaymakers. Same with shopping. Turkey has always been like this, but I can't remember it being to this extent. I didn't even want to set foot in a shop because you get no peace whatsoever to browse or look at things! Again, too much! I would go back to Turkey, but because I'd been to Gumbet/Bodrum before I would like to try somewhere else.

Most hotels look after the small bit of beach near to the hotel and try to keep it clean and tidy, the water sports are great, and the boat trips are well worth the money.
the only thing to dirty the resort and beach is US, so it could be even better if we all help.

Plenty of places to eat out at for very reasonable prices, Carpe Diem is a must, the kids will love super mario!

Windy Bay and Mistral also good.

the main town has many bars and restaurants, but be prepared to be hassled to go into the restaurants, they all want you to go to theirs!!
