Hi Folks,

Just thought I ought to let you know about this really decent bar we used a couple of times when visiting Valletta. Our first visit was on a Sunday when many places are closed or have restricted hours. D-Office is situated at 132, Archbishop Street which is off Republic street and more or less opposite the parliament buildings.

We were treated to some authentic Maltese fayre(Ftira) and drinks which were well priced. Although very plain and basic there was a good atmosphere in this bar and we returned another day to have a large cheeseboard for 3 and a bottle of Maltese wine. For the three of us including other drinks, and coffee, we paid about Lm12 and felt that it was real value for money!

I was informed by the delightful Maltese owner/manageress that the bar had only been open for about a year.

Well worth a visit,

Trev

Well I can fully concur with all that Trevor has said about this place, it is a very nice place to stop and have a sandwich or a more substantial meal if you require the whole place is sparkling clean and is decorated to a very smart standard, we went in twice once at night when we sat in the lovely bar litening to relaxing music and sipping Averna whilst a balmy breeze blew in from outside, the second time was yesterday dinner time when we had nice fresh salami, ham, cheese and tomatoe sandwiches and chilled kinnies, it has a lovely decor and very relaxed ambience, the charming manageress is a very nice elegant attractive lady for whom nothing is to much trouble, not normally being a fan of cafe bars this place really impressed me and I give it full marks for all they are they are doing here, deffinitely a great addition to Valletta.

Regards
Sliema2

We were in conversation with some friends recently and they asked what makes us want to return to Malta? Amongst many other things we had to relate our visit to D'Office which sums up the excellent level of food, drink, hospitality, and friendliness that we have come to always enjoy when visiting Malta.

D'Office is only one of the places worth a visit for eating genuine Maltese food there are plenty more including Il Merrill (Sliema) and what was the Perfection bakery in Valletta if it ever opens again. As I told my friends if they visit Malta then they need to seek out the genuine Maltese places if they want the genuine taste of Malta.

Unfortunately fast food outlets are all too familiar these days unlike back in the early 1980s when with a few exceptions food outlets were Maltese. The Sphinx fast food outlets have replaced the 'hole' in the wall in Sliema that 25 years ago, used to sell genuine red hot fresh baked Maltese pizza for a few cents.

Well we will certainly be looking forward to dropping into D'Office and other places next time we're in Malta but I reckon we might just resist calling into the Labour Club in Valletta since the last time we went in there for breakfast there was burnt black bits and gunge on our fried eggs!
