Las Vegas will be able to welcome more overseas visitors now that a third terminal has opened at McCarran International Airport.

Terminal 3 is a 1.9m-square-foot expansion that is the first unit terminal to be built in the US since 9/11.

It has 14 gates, seven of which can be used for international arrivals.

Terminal 3 increases McCarran's annual capacity to approximately 53 million passengers; its historic peak was nearly 48 million passengers in 2007.

The first flight to arrive at the new terminal was the Virgin Atlantic service from London's Gatwick Airport.
