Flight Only / Airline and Airports

I think you will find that airlines do not allow under 16's to fly alone. Check with the airline that you are flying with as they may have a different policy.

Some airlines will accept unaccompanied children at 14 (Ryanair for example) but you'll have to check with them individually as it is down to them.

It's usually one of the FAQ's on the websites.

Nearly all airlines will accept minors aslong as you arrange with the airline first, they will then make sure your daughter is looked after and met by the right person the other side.
should be fine but do speak to your airline to arrange

It depends on the airline, No UK Charter airline will accept kids under 16 on there own, they must be with an adult.
Scheduled carriers like BA, BMI, Virgin etc will carry them but forms have to be filled out, and must be booked with airline at time of reserving seats.

forms have to be filled out

This is often a 'Declaration Of Indemnity Form'.

As a previous post stated it depends on the airline, most scheduled airlines allow teenagers to travel alone, if you require your child to be looked after on the journey you will have to request the service when booking and it can cost up to £35.00. I live in Germany and often have young relatives
visiting me, the last time my fifteen year old nephew came he wouldn't let us book the unaccompanied minor service and had no problems travelling on his own.

many years ago, i travelled to the USA on my own. I was 13 years old and my dad put me on the plane at gatwick and i sorted myself out at Minniapolis, getting through customs and then catching another plane that would take me to Montana where i was supposed to be met by the family i was due to stay with. I had no escort and the airline did not chaperone me. It was Northwest Orient ( an american company) and i am certain that this policy would not stand now. ( it was in 1982 that i went)

How times change.

Only airlines I know definetly will accept children such as 15 year old are british airways (BA) and Easyjet and that is WITHOUT any forms.

So, can fly BA alone from 12 years old and easyjet along from 14 years old that is without forms or any permission etc. I know other airlines allow children alone but require documentation etc.

I had thought you were allowed to travel unaccompanied at 16 years old. However I have discovered the Airtours group insist on 18 years.

Can anyone tell me which airlines (trip is to Cyprus) do allow 16 year old's to travel?

Cheers,
Jinty

Most charter airlines insist the lead name on a booking is over 18 years old. You should be able to travel alone at 16 on scheduled and low cost airlines.

My 16 year old daughter is in Mallorca at the moment staying with friends of the family and travelled alone on a Jet2 flight . I don't think Jet2 fly to Cyprus (although I have not checked recently so I could be wrong) but I am sure there are other airlines that would allow a 16 year old to travel alone.

It depends on the individual airlines policy. Some allow 16 year olds to travel alone others state they must be accompanied by an adult (18 years and above).

I think you will find it is just a case of checking with different airlines that travel to Cyprus and see what their policy is regarding under 18's.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Only two I can find that are ok with 16 year olds are: Flyglobespan and Thomsons (surprised, thought Thomsons would have been sticky with this).

All he has to do is save up now...... :)

As far as I am aware the only airlines who will let them travel unaccompanied are scheduled airlines.

BA definately provide this service, as I was reading about it in the Newspaper today, apparently last year they took 150,000 people out on their Skyflyer Solo Service. On top of the cost of the tickets there are charges of between 32 and 50 pounds per child.
