might be a silly question..
what type of fresh milk do you get in the supermarkets?
reason i am asking is because my 18mth son can be a bit fussy when it comes to drinking milk. he normally has full cream cows milk at home. what is the best option?
The only difference i could see was that the milk was not dated for as long as in the UK,otherwise it's the same.
But they use a different colour-code system... eg I think semi-skimmed is yellow top. Read the bottle/carton!

Normal, Semi-skimmed, skimmed, high calcium, low lactose, soya, oat and rice.
On an island with 4,000,000,000 goats (soon to be about 24), you can't get goats milk!

Yes this is true mostly Mark, and why? Feta cheese and Halloumi of course, that is where all that goats milk goes..and very nice it is too..
Those that may not know Halloumi is available in the UK and is fantastic on bacon or ham grilled, fry the Halloumi it will not melt, it just goes golden brown and crispy at the edges, if you have not tried it then you are missing a real treat!!
And of course Halloumi is only true Cypriot cheese, Feta is made in other parts of Greece, but Halloumi is all our own..

Also back on the thread, the milk is normal cows stuff you have back in the UK, getting a little expensive now at a 96 cents (£1 UK) for a ltr&half in local shops/supers..

Ahh lovely Halloumi!
There is a small butchers/cafe near to me now which has been taken over by Cypriots, so they sell it to take home and also serve it grilled in the cafe - delicious!

Unfortunately, Jim, most of the Halloumi in the UK is made from a mixture of cow, sheep and goat's milk and doesn't taste the same... very squeaky!
I did find Halloumi in M&S without any cow's milk and it is much better.

Marion if it's genuine Halloumi from Cyprus then it should be all Goats milk, nothing else, unfortunately like Cheddar it's produced all over the world now..original Cypriot if you can get it..
Thanks everyone for the info on milk.
Also thanks for reminding me that i have to try Halloumi whilst i'm there. 48hrs to go.

Tesco's now sell Halloumi too. Yummy!!
Brother-in-law used to give us to us everytime we were at their house last year in Cyprus.

Last time I was in the UK six years ago Tesco's sold Halloumi, and M&S..
The common Halloumi brands in the UK are Pittas and Cypressa. From the Pittas website:
"Halloumi comes in four different varieties:
- Regular mixed milk halloumi,
- Halloumi Lite from mixed milk and only 12% fat,
- traditional Halloumi made purely from sheep and goat's milk
- and Catering Halloumi from mixed milk in rectangular blocks."
As I said, I've only found traditional Halloumi in M&S in their premium range.
The other Cypriot cheeses - Anari and Kefalotyri - are a bit harder to find here.

our local Asda sell haloumi and its from Cyprus, exactly the same stuff we had there!
and I always thought that Feta was made from sheeps milk not goats.... (I stand to be corrected but I'm quite sure I've read it on the packets which again are made in Greece not fakes from the UK that I refuse to buy)

Thats what we try and do get the actual stuff from cyprus not the stuff which says from Cyprus when its made down the road! i went to Morrisons today and we found some in there, but i had a look in asda yesterday & there was nothing!
