Alvor is a nice resort the Dom Jao is on outskirts of the village you have a 10 min walk approx to get to the bars and restaurants. But it is right on the beach.
We have not stopped there but did go to have a meal with some friends who were, the hotel itself is nice but we were not impressed with the food but then again we do not like hotels, much preferring to go out for meals.

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is right on the beach with direct access, and the beach is beautiful. The hotel is clean and well furnished, however if a view is important to you then pay the extra for a sea view, in our opinion it is well worth it with fantastic views (otherwise the room maybe to the rear of the hotel, overlooking the car park and in the winter gets little or no sun on the balcony). We also found the food to be very good and the staff extremely helpful.
It is approximately 10 minutes walk to the outskirts of the town of Alvor and probably 20 minutes to the harbour area. We love Alvor and are returning again soon.
Alvor and the hotel are very quiet in the winter months and this is what we like. If you like walking the walks along the beach and cliff top to Pria de Roche are lovely. However the hotel provides a courtesy bus twice a day to Portimio which comes in handy.
If you decide to go, hope you have a wonderful time, we always have.
