I've been early October and Easter. Loved it both times but would probably choose October as being the better time. The first time we stayed in the French Quarter which was great and the second time just outside of it. We had 8 days in October and a couple of those days were spent in Memphis. The second stay was 7 days. I'd say 7 was probably enough, although if you are a music fan then you could def handle longer Travelbag organised it the first time but we did DIY the second as we had airmiles to use. If you have 14 days I would think of combining it with somewhere else, depending on what you're interested in. We will return to NO as its a great destination (our first visit was pre hurricane)

We went to New Orleans in 2006 (as part of 7 weeks in the USA), just after Hurricane Katrina and found it a city very much in a state of shock. It felt lifeless, and the very visible after effects of Katrina were there for all to see.

I liked wandering through the French Quarter (we stayed on Canal Street) and that was barely touched by Katrina. In the daytime it was lovely, but at night I'm afraid Bourbon Street was just a bit too over the top for us. We love nights out and having plenty to drink but it just felt so wrong. Obviously they were trying to encourage tourists back and the drinks deals were second to none (buy 1 get 4 free in some places) but I wasn't feeling it. The fact that Harrah's had this big spanking great casino nearby just elevated things, it seemed so out of place after what had happened.

I'm glad I went, and I would like to go again when the city has recovered but it was a difficult few days. I did love the Jackson Square area though.

Despite not being that much of an expert on the city and the surrounding area I would guess that 14 nights is going to be way too much but as a twin or maybe three centre it would make a great trip.

I feel the same as jwhiting we went last Sept, a great time weatherwise to go, but
felt it to be a shock there was no holiday buzz,and its going to take a long time to
get things going again, Bourbon St for us was a no go area,Went on the Natchez lunch
cruise and there were only about 20 others on there.
Lots of the shops had not reopened after Katrina and were still boarded up.
The Katrina tour really brought it back as to how bad it was,after 4 days we were
ready to leave but had to stick the week out for the flights.

a must is Cafe Du Monde on Jackson square their bienetts[spelling]are to die for,but don,t
wear dark clothes you will be covered in soft icing sugar
forgot to mention we did it all DIY starting in Sanfransico, Lake Tahoe.Yosemite,Death Valley,
and Las Vegas before flying on to New Orleans

andy new orleans is great we was their in jan as part of our cruise weather then was raining but talking to locals n.o. can get 4 seasons in 1 day so when to go is your choice. do go to bourbon st it is rocking lots of good bars with live jazz and rock bands a truly good night or nights out.
