We have stayed twice this year at the Montemar, this is just a small hotel, no pool, just small breakfast room, croisants, jam, cereal, basic. Very clean, staff very nice, small outside terrace outside the bar. 10 minutes walk into the old town and from the nearest beach, lovely beaches so didn't mind not having a pool.

We stayed in a one bedroomed apartment at the Marina Club Aparthotel last summer. This is good standard self-catering accommodation. You are about 10 mins walk form all the bars and restaurants in the old town and about 5 mins walk from the Pingo Doce if you wish to cater for yourself.

The Tivoli is a good hotel - we stay there for our winter holiday in Lagos.However, for our main holiday we use the Marina Sao Roque, a small family-run 3* hotel just behind the Marina complex - it's spotlesly clean and the most friendly place you could wish to find; the only reason we use the Tivoli in the winter is because the Sao Roque closes for the winter months. In both cases we choose Bed & Breakfast board for exactly the same reasons as you; if you need tips re. restaurants just ask.
Don't know if it affects you or not, but I've rarely seen children at the Sao Roque, so it would be as well to check if there are youngsters in your party.

Hello, I would like to put forward the Hotel Marina Rio, This is a very good four star place with just 33 rooms right in front of the Marina and next to the bus station, across a bridge to the Marina and train station and the town is a short walk (flat) it is B&B and as Sagres has put I also know of some good restaurants if you would like to know of them.

I was talking to some people in Luis's bar (that has a happy hour 5 till 8pm) in July who were staying at the Tivoli Lagos Hotel and they told us that there are about 5 types of room, the more you pay the better room you get and that some of the lower priced rooms are not so good.
