The Plaza is North of Sand Lake Road and is set back from the road,whereas the Quality Inn is almost opposite the Mercado which I think is a much better location.
We used to go to either and ask for a room with a coupon from the booklet Go Florida.We got the booklet from the Tourist Information office just outside of the Mercado on I Drive.They always sent us to their other hotels as they were full for the same price,$29!The first time we got sent to the Clarion Plaza and the next time to the Omni Rosen!
Its about 10 years since we were there so dont know if they still do this.

Jaytrip, you've got it the wrong way round. The Quality Inn Plaza is south of Sand Lake Road in the "prettier" part of I Drive and is almost opposite the Pointe Orlando (what remains of it). The Quality Inn International is north of Sand Lake Road, just up from the big McDonald's.

The Plaza has the best location by far. Not only is it south of Sand Lake which is a far nicer (greener, less built up etc) area of I Drive, it also gives you easier access up Universal Boulevard to Universal Studios and IOA and obviously down to Sea World and to get on the Interstate to Disney (or just go up to Sand Lake and take a left and follow all the way down and take a left on Apopka Vineland to the Downtown Disney entrance). Whilst the QII isn't in such a bad location it can be a nightmare with traffic north of Sand Lake.

I would go with the QIP every time over the QII.

FYI - the Mercado was bulldozzed last year. The site is just an empty vacant lot awaiting development.

Would agreed QIP and QII very similar and I would probably go for QIP slightly more than QII, except for the fact that QII rooms are currently being refurbished.

Sorry I got them mixed up but its 10 years since we were last there.
Its a shame about the Mercado as it used to be a lovely place to visit on an evening.
When we first went to I Drive in 1990 the area south of Sand Lake Road still had lots of green fields.
I would see a big change now but my long haul days are over!.
