I'm sure Tisso will respond but just to let you know that, having been here before 4 years ago, I was also considering going again this Jul/Aug but had second thoughts after Tisso's experience. My local tour operator in Diani Beach advised me that things had been going downhill for a little while at this lodge and that, as at 3 weeks ago or so, they were shutting down. Don't know if/when they will re-open.

Yes it was about 3 weeks ago that I had this confirmed - not sure if he said it was going to close down or it already had. I believe that it was considered to be a 3* or 4* depending on whose website you look at. Personally I would try and look for somewhere else at the moment - I have. It's not worth the risk if things are not quite right there. Bear in mind though that the Masai is pretty booked up for Jul-Sept as this is peak season. I couldn't get anywhere at my first 5-6 choices of lodges/camps - not sure if this is same story across the board as I was looking for something a bit more luxurious this time. Have a look at http://www.africanmeccasafaris.com/ - don't know anything about the company but I do use their website to help me decide which lodges I may be interested in as they have good info on their site as well as videos etc. I then narrowed down the choice and booked though a local operator. Im sure you'll be just fine!! we were told that you only see them from time to time (more so in the area we stayed) and it was quite a shock to the locals that there were that many in such a short space of time!
