Hey,
Last year we stayed at Club Happy Days in September for a week. Had a great time, and are looking to go back this year (there's 8 of us, and we only paid £210 for the week last year). The staff there made our holiday, which is the main reason we want to go back to that hotel.
This year, we have to go at the back end of July, so the price has gone up to £330. A bit more than we wanted to spend on a "cheap week" away.
We've found another hotel, which has got great reviews, and only costs £290 for the week.
The problem we're having is, do we go back to the same hotel as last year, know what to expect and hope the staff are still there. Or go to this new hotel, pay less, but we don't know what the people are like, and apparently there's no real entertainment (although it is closer to the front)?
That's a really long winded way to get to my real question - what's the chances of the same staff still being at the hotel? Because when it gets down to it, we'd be paying £40-£50 more, just for the staff. But if they're not there, then, it's a bit of a waste of money...
After re-reading that, I hope it makes sense.
Cheers,
Dan
I went to the Olu Deniz Resort Hotel in June 05 & May 06 & many (in fact loads) of the same staff were there.
Same chambermaid even! Same gardener/pool man in the sea-view block. Same restaurant supervisor & manager, many of the same waiters.
Unless you know the other place is better in some way, then for £40 I would stick with what I know to be good.
Happy holidays

hi dans know exactly what you are saying when me and my wife find a good hotel for what ever reason it may be , staff meals facilities ,and no matter where it is . we always return .why spoil your holiday by ending up somewhere you are not happy with, i cant see all the staff at this or any hotel being changed as they tend to keep the same each year, maybe one or two changes if any ,but cant see that making a big difference ,wherever you decide hope you enjoy yourself.

We stayed in a hotel in September last year in Marmaris and there was a couple staying there who had also been in June.
They said they had come back to the same hotel as the staff had been so good in the June.
From June to September the staff and changed and the staff who worked there in the September where awful!.
We to have stayed at Club Happy Days in 2005 but last year i know the staff had moved on and the staff working at Happy Days last year where new as i saw a few of them in bars on a night time and they where telling me that no one from the time we had stayed at Happy Days where not working there any more.
We have been to Marmaris 6 times now and never stayed in the same apartment/hotel.
We have stayed as far in Marmaris as Club Happy Days and as close to Marmaris as the beach... I like the beach area much better!
What is the name of the hotel you have found for £290?? I am sure someone on here would have stayed there or knows something about it.
If you are only back to C.H.D for the staff then i would say you are taking a chance as they can and do very often move on.

Missus' is reading this, and just informed me that there are 2 hotels for £290 - one is the Aloe Hotel, and the other is the Menekse.

i have stayed in hotels all over turkey ,and i can honestly say i have never found the staff to be bad ,it is not in there interest to be rude or discourtious, what i have found that untill you actually talk to them they will not talk to you, this i am told is part of there rules. i have made many good friends in turkey and most of them are hotel staff.learn a few turkish words even simple hello(merhaba)and you will see the difference this makes, they love you to at least try there lingo, great people.

Yes i would agree that every other place we have stayed at apart from the Goldstone Hotel the staff have been great..
but....
try Staying at the Goldstone Hotel if you want to see rude and discourteous staff. Well the staff from last September any way!!
Thanks for the advice but i do know a bit of simple Turkish!!!

I tend to stay at different hotels /aprtments each year Igo on holiday. I find that if you go back to the same place you are always comparing it to your pervious holiday and if it is not as good for whatever reason you can be disappointed. As a rule I find staff to be very friendly but this tends only to be a small part of my holiday, I spend time out and about in the resort

"what i have found that untill you actually talk to them they will not talk to you, this i am told is part of there rules"
This is so unbelievably true. In the hotels, at least.
When we arrived last year, we went for some food in the hotel restaurant, and were a bit dissappointed that the waiters seemed to ignore us a little. However, as soon as we simply said "hi", or asked one of their names, it was a totally different situation. Sometimes you couldn't stop them talking to you!
By the end of the holiday, we were fluent in Turkish! (well, we could say "thank you" and "horny".....!!!)
Anyway, back on topic...
Still undecided what to do. The staff last year really were great. Everything from keeping a table reserved for us on a night, to waving us all off on our last day. It was great.
BUT....the hotel wasn't all that. It was basic and clean, but not really worth £330 without the staff.
Though, like the last person said, maybe we should go somewhere else. We don't want to go this year, and be dissappointed, as we'll be comparing it to our hotel last year....
ARGH!
Oh, and thanks for all the replies so far!
Hi Dans,
Places like Club Happy Days are unlikley to have the same staff. Turkish workers go where the money is and I know that place didnt pay much, it will be one of the last-resort places to work.
Ive been to many hotels/apps in Marmaris and Club Happy Days is undoutedly the worst ive been too.
If you book your flights and accomodation seperatley you should be able to save money, many hotels also arrange a transfer for you. Also check different dates, one week can be considerably cheaper than the next and no real reason for it.
There is also different airports, most people are within reach of two airports, check to see if flights leave from an alternative.
End of July is peak season, the prices will be higher. You could consider going May/October to save money, otherwise Id recommend spending that little bit more and getting yourself into GreenPark, or Anastasia or other ***+ accomodation.

Just thought that I would add to this topic, we have been to Turkey 8 times and the staff with the odd exception are always so nice and look after you very well. They take an interest and love to talk about football etc with you. Our 13 year old gets lots attention when he wears his football shirts and there is lots of banter.
I would think the better the star rating of an hotel then the service and facilities will will be better, but the turkish people are so nice wherever you go.
I would spend what you can afford and make new friends at a new hotel.

Just a reply to say thanks for everyone's replies.
We're pretty much decided on a different hotel completely! Club Maric, it's called.
Thanks again,
Dan
