We went to Zante in the summer and stayed in some apartments called Villa Pouliezos(superb location on the beach, very friendly family owner, we would love to go back next year). They were between the two resorts although Alykes was a couple of minutes nearer.

I believe both resorts are as good as the other with lots of restaurants and bars. They are very family orientated - not one drunken youth in sight. The beaches are superb. The sea was like getting into a bath. The people in the bars and restaurants were very friendly. Even in the height of the season, there was never any need to wait for a table.

It was one of the most relaxing holiday I've been on. If that's what you want then Alykes or Alykanas is wonderful. If you want lively then you need to go further down the island. I understand from one of the barman that Laganas is a bit like Falaraki!

Hi Mari. We have booked at the Alykanas Village (with Kosmar). I think there are two apartments: Alykanas Village and Alykanas Beach (the other one is going to be a Thomson Superfamily next year which put us off a bit). We booked Alykanas because we liked the sound of the apartments (they have consistently good reviews). We don't usually do 'commecialised' Greece but there will be me and the hubby and our son (who will be 12) and we thought there might be a lot of families there (we usually travel in a group with other kids). Which is best? Nothing to choose between them really, they`re connected to each other by a lovely golden sandy beach, and it`s a nice walk along the water`s edge from one to the other.

The difference is Alikes is the original place on the coast, the centre of which is on the junction of the road to Katastari. Alykanas was a small inland village a mile inland to the east. In recent years considerable tourist development around Alykanas has taken place merging the two places.

Try this web site Alykes.com it will give you an idea what its like , and you`ll see people go again and again , we stayed in both Alykanas and Alykes (the villa pouliezos Alykes and Alykanas village ) both lovely as is both villages its so easy to walk and eat in both places so you`ll be spoilt for choice

We have decided on 2 weeks in Alikanas in June next year trouble is price keeps changing so am gonna hold off booking price has varied from £815 to £1000 for same two weeks for two people. What sort of price would you exepct to pat for basic greece apartment self catering for 2 for two weeks?

we went to alikes 2nd week in may. we booked about 3 weeks before on the interenet and paid 150 each including insurance on the manos website.

we had a fantastic time the weather was great, it got hotter every day 25 -30. the resort was lovely beach beautiful and the sea was so clear, i went in the sea everyday.

the restaurants in alikes were great. we walked to alikanas along the beach, we personally preferred alikes.

we stayed in Nikos Apartments, although the owner made us feel welcome and we had a lovely pool, there were a few issues, so we would not go back to same apartments.

there are 2 good web sites for really good information: the Zante chat room great people lots of intersting info and holidays uncovered look up the island and find out the good and bad apartments to stay in. we even booked our holday to lesvos in september on this site.

before we went to lesvos i was trying to find the best rate for euros. on talking to zante chat room. recommended travelex, to collect euros at airport, but i like to have my euros in my hand before i go. i have since found out that marks and spencers offer you a good rate online and you can get them delivered, so i think we will try them.

we would definately go back to zante again.
