Most Caribbean beaches have a population of crabs that burrow in to the sand. You'll see little holes close to the shoreline, above the tidal limit where they hide during the day. If the beach is busy, you'll generally not see them until things are quieter in the early morning or later in the evening. You'll see them throwing sand out of their holes, doing a bit of housework! You'll not see any in the sea unless you go looking for them on a rocky patch and even then, probably not.
