Camping and Caravanning UK and Europe

We had a lovely week at Campingpark Bad Liebenzell in the Black Forest with an almost 3 year old. We travelled with Eurocamp and the site is on their website.
The site is quiet with little in the way of entertainment etc but the local swimming pool is next door and there is a good park with swings, fountains, etc almost next door the other way. Many of the local restaurants were geared up to serving families and there were 2 supermarkets within easy walking distance (we didn't use the site shop at all). The surrounding area is spectacular and there are lots of pretty little towns round about. We had the out-laws with us (in their own accomodation thankfully) so we weren't allowed to do too many childfriendly things (there are only so many churches that you can drag a child round) but Eurocamp mentions a zoo and a theme park for young children. The guidebooks all say that Baden Baden isn't worth visiting and having been dragged there I can vouch for that and say that it had absolutely nothing for adults and even less to offer children.

Hi, many thanks for that. Site sounds exactly what we would like, amenities very close but not necessary on site. Beautiful surroundings are high up on our agenda so will keep this one in mind. Cheers! Lesley

I forgot to say that we drove from Rijnsburg in Holland to Bad Liebenzell leaving 10ish and arriving around 4 in the afternoon without feeling we had overdone the driving so it would be possible to drive from Rotterdam without overnight stops if your boat gets in fairly early. The first part of our drive was very slow and on minor roads and we had a reasonable stop for lunch.

Sorry, :duh I forgot to mention we were taking our own tent and equipment, so don't need to hire accommodation for the fortnight! Therefore, need suggestions for campsites which allow people to pitch their own tents. Cheers! :)

It's true that Baden Baden is really for the monied and cultured - Casino and Concert Hall - but you might enjoy a day at the Caracalla Thermal Baths - lovely hot water, jacuzzis and rather like a theme park for adults. Children are tolerated, but it's not a noisy environment for jumping and splashing!

However you might find that if you want a change of scene for two days or so, Baden Airpark is at hand with Ryanair flights to Barcelona, Dublin, Valencia and even London Stansted (if you've forgotten something vital from home!).

Over the border in France it's worth visiting SOUFFLENHEIM and BETSCHDORF for two very specific types of local pottery, slip-ware decoration for the first, and blue and grey stoneware for the second. Several places have free demonstrations, you can buy seconds, and the atmosphere is very quaint. And of course the local food and wine are out of this world!! (But I'm biassed as I live in Alsace!!)

You can also head south from your campsite on the motorway ....... about 40 mins ...... to Rust, home of Europapark, a great, safe and clean theme park which has many similar rides to Disney but also with theatre performances (variety) an ice show, magicians and jousting. You can find details on their website but unfortunately I can't remember it offhand.

Just north of you - about 20 mins - is Karlsruhe with a great museum and park, and you are not far from Heidelberg with the alleged greatest wine barrel in the world!

Have fun!

Thanks for all your suggestions, I keep adding places to my list! Of course, it all depends on what the weather is going to be like, if it's bad round Austria/Switzerland way, will can head to France. Cheers, Lesley ;)
