Brilliant Ann!! So glad you had a great time and congratulations to the happy couple!

If you haven't done so already I'd appreciate it if you could copy your post to our Cruise Reviews HERE It won't show for a couple of weeks as the Admin who approves Cruises is away from the site for a couple of weeks.

Ann, I'm delighted you had such a good time, and enjoyed the ship so much.

I know I'm not the only HT member who wll be sailing on Carnival Liberty next year whe she homeports in Dover to do the Baltic itinerary.
Reply
donalk , you will have a super cruise on The Liberty, we may do the Baltics on her ourselves as
we had such a wonderfull time,we are doing a Far East Cruise on the Costa Alegria in November,
but i am sure the Liberty will have spoilt us after being on such a big and wonderfull ship the
crew were all fantastic.

Ann, and anyone else thinking of doing Carnival Liberty next year - Splendor Cruise Director John Heald been blogging daily, and if you check the archive over the past two weeks at INVALID URL you'll find lots of infor and pictures of the Baltic ports covered by Carnival.

You'l also find lots of info on the effects of the hurricanes over the past month, and while reading, you'll be inspired, reduced to tears and thrown into spasms of uncontrollable laughter in equal measure.

The best news of all is that John will be our cruise director on Liberty next year!!

The 'Baltic blog' promised by John Heald has now been posted. Here's the link

http://johnhealdsblog.com/2008/09/30/the-baltic-see-you-in-2009/

Obviously, John's videos promote Carnival's own tours fairly heavily, and for anyone unfamiliar with his writing style, he can be a tad unconventional at times.

John will be cruise director on Liberty next summer.

I just got back from a long weekend to find this out. To say I'm gutted is an understatement.

We're looking at Norwegian Jewel leaving Dover the next day as a possible replacement, as we'd already booked Belfast / Heathrow flights which we can change if necessary.

Our TA in Dublin is looking at possible alternatives within the Carnival group with a view towards compensatory OBC or whatever else may be on offer, but I don't see Carnival showering us with goodies.

We'll have to see what happens.
Reply
We were offerd $50 OBC :really if we rebooked on the new Carnival Splendor ,its in europe in Sept2009
no good to us as our grandson is back in school then, looking to find a cruise in Aug possibly the med :think

Holland America are offering to honour Carnival Liberty bookings on Eurodam from Copenhagen for the same price, or MV Rotterdam on a round trip from Copenhagen to Rotterdam port for £80 more.

No word of any offers from Princess yet, but they are coming I'm led to believe.

I'm just goingh to keep my powder dry for a few days and see what's available.

I got an email from CruiseKings today with a list of alternative to the cancelled cruises, but unfortunately I deleted it. Perhaps they have the details on their site or it may be worth giving them a call.

I do remember the MSC Lirica was one of the options from Dover and a couple of P&O ships, but I can't remember if it was the Aurora or Arcadia.

There is also NCL Jewel doing the Baltic as a 12n alternative.

http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruisesearch/cruisesearch.html;?destinationCode=EUROPE&selectedFromDate=032009&selectedToDate=112009&shipCode=JEWEL

If carnival have pulled out and other carnival lines are making prive protected offers then I think this is a sign that there is over capacity in the baltic next year so expect some price drops.

Our TA in Dublin is looking at a number of options. At present, Eurodam out of Copenhagen is the front runner. NCL Jewel out of Dover would probably be my preferred option, but they're looking for £1,400 pp for an OV cabin. Another option is Constellation out of Harwich, but the extra cost is likely to bring it out of our budget.

At this stage, part of me is tempted to just claim all my refunds from Carnival, bank the cash, sit tight and wait to see what comes up in the spring. However, the need to secure adjoining cabins for the kids etc. means that's nor realistic.

Thanks hamrag. :tup
Also, in case anyone is wondering re copyright of the CruiseKings email, there is nothing on their email stating that it may not be reproduced.

Luci - I doubt if any company would object to its offers being passed on to a wider audience!! Thanks to yourself and Hamrag for passing on this info, as I'm one of a few people on the board directly affected by this (although, the Cruisekings e-mail misses out on one Carnival sailing, the June 26th one. Mine!!!!!)

My TA has been dealing with HAL, so far Princess UK have done nothing, although Carnival say they will be making offers. The biggest issue is that with the exception of P&O, the Carnival owned options are leaving from Copenhagen.

In our case, we'd have been flying from Belfast or Dublin anyway so it's just a matter of a longer flight, but Copenhagen would be a stretch for people who were hoping for a no-fly cruise.
