It all depends on what daytime temperatures you're used to. When we flew out on 26th Feb it was 18C in Cyprus and not a breath of wind but 14C when we landed in Malta, damp and breezy. The weather got better as the week went on and we got 2 really nice days at the end - one without any wind at all. Very unusual.

We got a message on facebook on Saturday 10th March from some friends who were still in Malta to say they had a force 10 gale the night before. The weather is a bit hit and miss at this time of year but my parents (those in the shorts at the side of me in the photo) have been going every February for 12 years and this year was the worse weather they've experienced. But, it's been odd weather all over in Europe this last month.

We had SNOW in the tourist resorts in Cyprus (Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca at sea level) in the middle of the week that we were away - so we managed to escape that in Malta.

You just need to find a sheltered spot and it will feel quite pleasant. But make sure you have something warm if you go to Valletta. The streets are all long and narrow, with tall buildings on a grid type pattern and the wind will find you, wherever you are there!

Am I correct in saying that they drive on the same side of the road as us in Malta? thanks again to all those who have answered my many questions. I've printed out all the information, and hubby is reading it at this moment :tup

Brilliant :tup ps - think we'll stick to the bus :rofl

The Maltese roads are worse than those in Cyprus and they leave a lot to be desired, especially after all the rain we've had this winter. There are more holes than surface now.... :yikes

Helen we have hired a car many times when there as the prices are some of the cheapest and to be honest it is not a problem driving, they drive on the same side as us (or where the shade is :rofl ) and everywhere is easy to find and you can't really get lost as Malta is so small.
Valletta is a bit of a nightmare for parking so would avoid that and take the bus, a car is great for going across to Gozo for the day and just exploring the island, we do that often :tup

Here is something I bet a lot of you didn't know, there used to be a railway in Malta, oh yes I kid ye not, parts of it can still be seen such as this old station building located at Rabat

Fantastic Photos Graham, makes me quite nostalgic for Malta. I'd love to go again but could only manage to fit in a three or four night break if this year. Might have to wait till another year so we can get a week, as probably better value.

Just got back and we had a great time. We had a day and a half of weather hot enough for sunbathing, and the rest of the time it was nice enough to walk around in a t shirt during the day, and a jacket at night. We did have a couple of windy days, which apparently is more common next month. We caught the water taxi into Valetta to watch the fantastic procession on Good Friday and went again for a morning on the service bus. During the afternoon we went to Marsaloxx, saw the pretty little fishing boats and had a late lunch overlooking the harbour. We walked almost 4 miles into St Julians and caught the bus back , and went over again for a meal one evening. A day ticket on the bus was just 2 Euros 60!!! We spent a day at Mdina and at the catacombs at Rabat - fantastic. We also did the 90 minute harbour cruise. We'll definitely be going back and hopefully before too long.
A big thank you to all of you who helped me with suggestions beforehand. We knew what we wanted to see and do beforehand, and accomplished it all :tup
