Just got back from Praia da Rocha.
Can recommend the Brazilian restaurant (Sabor Gaucho) right next door to your hotel. Buffet and 13 meats served on skewers for 14.5 euros.
Also liked the Italian opposite the Casino.

Stayed at Vila Rosa a couple of years ago and couldn't fault it. Our apartment was very spacious and well equipped, separate kitchen with everything you need, full cooker, fridge, all utensills, iron & board, etc. and a hairdryer. Mini safe can be hired. We had 2 balconies, one off lounge with view over the smaller pool and one off kitchen.

The best restaurant we found was Tinoco, we ate there many times it was so good. Manuel is a great host and will look after you. It's about 5 mins walk from Vila Rosa, walk towards the town and turn left after the row of shops before the flyover, it's just around the corner. Another is Felecia on the main street. These are a bit more expensive than some but well worth it. There are plenty of other good value restaurants in the town. For good English breakfasts and snacks i would recommend Duke's on the main street.

There are plenty of varied bars, lots of Irish bars and bars with live music. If you want modern music bars try On The Rocks or Bartz on the main street (open till 4). If you want a late club try Babylone (open till 6 if you still have the energy).

We are going to Lagos in June so if you can recommend bars and restaurants there I would be grateful.

Have a great time.

Jool,
We go to Lagos two or three times a year. If you let me know what type of bars and restaurants you like, I'll do my best to help.

Hi Sagres,
We are staying at the Porta da Vila Apartments in Lagos in June and can't wait. We like good quality restaurants with nice surroundings not the "cheap and cheerful" type. Could you recommend a good fish restaurant or anywhere else with good quality food. For bars we like somewhere a bit lively with music and maybe somewhere you can dance. Thanks for your help.

Hi Jool,
The Porta da Vila apts are nicely situated with great views over the bay. You are only a 5 or 6 minute walk from the town centre.
Among our favourite restaurants are O Galeao and O Navegador - if you need directions just post again.
As far as bars are concerned, most of them are small establishments with little or no room for dancing but there is a nice Jazz / Blues bar called Stevie Ray's near to the Old Slave Market and, almost opposite, a little bar called the Acores; this gets popular with local youngsters late on, but, if you pop in earlier in the evening, the owner, Rogerio, will play whatever music you ask for. He ( Rogerio ) and his wife Fatima come from the Azore islands originally and have videos of the islands which they'll put on for you if you're interested and just ask.
There is a new fish restaurant - Estrela do Mar - above the fish market on the Avenida, and this has spectacular views over the river, Marina and the bay of Lagos as far as Praia da Rocha and Portimao.
If you need any more info just post a new topic in this forum or p.m. me as we're in a Praia da Rocha thread here, I think.

In Praia da Rocha I can recommend the Titanic Restaurant and the Atlantis Restaurant.

Both good choice menus, mid price range, friendly staff and good service.
