We returned on Thursday from Lesvos after our 2nd stay here this season.
Despite the weather still being very good, away from the main resorts there was a distinctly end of season feelling which we did not expect. By mid afternoon in some of our favourite spots we were the only people left on the beach and some of the tavernas were closed for the season. This is not a party island but even in main resorts tavernas were pretty much empty by 10 30. Mytilini was the exception and was just as manic as usual. Of the islands with airports big enough for passenger jets this remains our favourite and providing you're not looking for a wild time accommodation on arrival would be fine anywhere here.
rdv have you tried Symi if you like it quiet its lovely,20 miles off Rhodes
Yes, Symi is on the list for a return visit. Its a very different island to Lesvos and it certainly has a longer season.
Anaxos is still going pretty well, even this late in the season - have you ever stayed there?
Yes we spent a couple of days there last week and it was still quite busy although none of the tavernas were more than half full for lunch. It was definately the best location on the island for snorkelling with shoals of yellow striped bream (known locally as yellow snappers) around the rocks at the windmill end of the beach.
We were in Molyvos from 30th Aug to 6th Sept, it was really busy the first few days, then it seemed to quiten off a bit, we had really great weather too hot to go off in the car, only to Eftalou hot springs then Golden Beach and had lunch nearly every day in the little taverna there, we were puzzled that they packed the tables and chairs up on the top 2 terraces after the 1st Sept. Golden beach was much busier this year, and the harbour was heaving every night, we went in Octopus 3 times, Once upon a time in Molyvos twice, Sansibal once, and Dilano once.
