ok complete change of plan! He now says that he loves Scotland and wants to go there, but we agree that we want something really remote, preferably in xxx acres of lands or in mountains etc.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? I think we will have to fly to Prestwick Airport so somewhere that is easily accessable from there would be good.

If you dont know any log cabins that fit the bill, how about a rural hotel which is romantic and very secluded?

Thanks,

Mel

If you're flying into Prestwick you're a long way from the Highlands. Are you hiring a car? If not can you fly to Inverness?

Rebel - what is Fire Pages do you know the website address? I've tried a google search and couldn't find it

Bridd - I'm not sure whether we can fly to Inverness, but if we chose to go up to the highlands I am aware that it's miles away from Prestwick. I would have thought that we would end up flying from Heathrow to Inverness if we find somewhere right up in the highlands.
At the moment, flights aren't the priority. I'll worry about that when I've actually found somewhere to stay :)

Thanks for your replies

Hi Mel
this one is a short drive from Inverness airport. Not a log cabin but very sweet.

Hi Melt71,

Now that you're definitely decided on Scotland you might get a better response on the UK Forum. A good starting point for anywhere in Scotland is the VisitScotland website:

http://www.visitscotland.com/

It has an excellent search facility that is really easy to use. It's also worth bearing in mind that Scotland is a really underpopulated part of the UK - only 10% of the total UK population lives up here and once you get out of the central Edinburgh/Glasgow belt (where half the Scottish population lives!) the rest of us are pretty thinly spread out through the rest of the country. You can easily be in a remote, thinly populated rural area area within an hour's drive of any of the airports. So I would suggest that you decide on the airport you'd like to arrive at and then start looking for somewhere to stay within a radious of an hour's drive from it. So from Prestwick you have got a lot of choice, including not just the whole of Ayrshire, but also the Isle of Arran if you push the travel 'window' and don't mind a 55 mins ferry crossing.

http://www.ruralretreats.co.uk - excellent standard of accommodation, but properties for two are few and far between and are pricy.

http://www.johansens.com for a posh hotel.

Hi Emma
dont know when half term is in England but if you mean Easter week - 8th April the prices go way up. If you can avoid that week you should get something good for that money.
How about

Also try http://www.unique-cottages.co.uk good prices for some very nice properties. :D

As for log-cabins stay well away from the ones the Forestry Commission have, IMO they are no better than garden sheds with patio doors.
