Although I haven't saile on either ship, I think the Island Star would be mor suitable for a 17 year old. I will be on it next Saturday. :D

All the meals, apart from the a la carte restaurants, are buffet so there should be plenty choice and it's slightly more informal.

Perhaps reading our reviews will help you make up your mind.

I would choose the emerald.

The Emerald has the formal stuff and formal dining at no extra charge but there is a good choice of foods and of course there is the Bistro for normal food etc.

Plus on the funny side, I have asked for the kiddies menu in the formal dining room and can say the spagetti bolognaise is very nice.
