Hi
You didn't mention what age your son was, but if he has just turned 13 or 14 he should join his local Air Cadet squadron. He can attend easter and summer camps at an active Royal Air Force station where he will have a full week of activities, including flying, shooting on the ranges, all sorts of sports, visits to the different sections on the station to see how the RAF works, plus lots more. Not bad for the princly sum of about £45 which includes his 3 square meals a day, and transport to and from the camp. I was an air cadet a long time ago, and I really enjoyed my summer camps, my two sons are in the organisation, and they have been to lots of camps, including one to JHQ Rheindahlen in Germany. Have a look at http://www.aircadets.org for more info. :D
