Wow you had a busy time Lesley! Thanks for sharing your TR, I enjoyed reading it and it wasn't too long.

Not too long at all, Lesley. You seemed to pack a lot in to your holiday.

How was your flight with USairways?
We are thinking of booking for November with them. There is a 2 hour time between flights in Philadelphia on the way there. In your opinion will that be enough for customs etc. How long was your layover?

Thanks for posting.

Ours was under 2 hours, and plenty of time. We came off the plane and went straight to customs, and got a place second in line! Nothing like Newark airport where you have hassle because it's so busy.

US Airways was fine. Not quite Continental (who have seatback entertainment), but still ok. Movies on the flight.

Nice report Leslie, it was a pleasure to read.

It's awakened my interest to visit L.V. again as it's probably 10 years since I was last there.

Mike....10 years eh. About time you went back then (if you need encouragement!)

Seriously, you'll notice a lot of new things. Wynn, Aladdin, I don't even know if Bellagio and Paris would have been there 10 years ago? What ones do you remember? My cousin stayed at excalibur years ago and can't remember Bellagio.

Great report leslie, really want to go to LV but Iam finding it hard convincing the kids to stay at home with nanna, Oh well a few more years and may be a bribe will do the job.

Lesley, and everyone else for that matter,

we stayed at Imperial Palace (1994 or even 1993). Excalibur was built and in fact that's were we wanted to stay. Arrived on a Sunday evening, about 18:00 and told Excalibur was full - all 8000+ rooms. We were gutted but our own fault as we'd not made a forward reservation.

The Imp. Palace was fine but we had to stay in the Fairfield Inn (Marriott) on Paradise Rd at the junction with East Twain Avenue that first night.

I can remember this only because I've one of those great drawing type maps (like on the wall in "Friends'" appartment. It's on my office wall and I spend distractive minutes looking at it. (Got Manhattan in front of me as well).

I remember standing in the grounds of the Mirage hotel waiting for my wife and kids and wearing a t-shirt I'd had for a couple of years bearing the word Mirage - but unrelated to the hotel. Several people asked me for information thinking I worked there.

Don't think Luxor was built then and MGM Grand was in construction. Defo no Vegas World.

I think Viv and I are likely to go there within next 2 years and she's hinted about next March time. So, if anyone has any good ideas for low-cost flights out of Manchester in, say, Feb or March 2006 I'd be grateful of your help - but not TCD eh; many of you will have seen my posts on TCD/Excel and Air Atlanta forums.

Jaime,

No we went with US Airways, and ended up coming back with American Airways. Been with continental before and they are better than both of those, you get seat back entertainment. So you've picked the right one.

Nine Fine Irishmen is in New York New York, so only a short tram ride away for you from Luxor (you are staying at Luxor, yes???).

look under dining, nine fine irishmen

$12 for two drinks ($6.50 for a fosters and $5.50 for a smirnoff ice).

Actually they have their own site

Really enjoyed you trip report Lesley :D

We haven't spent much time in the casinos past the Wynn and have never found time to go to The Orleans and Palms, you've motivated us to try to spend some time doing that when we go in November. And this time we are going to make a concerted effort to remember id so we can join the players clubs, you really did seem to make some savings (all the more to shop with  .)

I'm trying to work out which shows to see at the moment. What are the comedy clubs like and which is the best, we haven't been before and fancy trying one. Have you been to Purple Reign at the Boardwalk on any of your previous visits?

Clarissa,

I've never heard of Purple Reign to be honest. The Comedy Stop is probably the best IMHO. Riviera one has also been good twice that we've been there, although others seem to dislike it at times.

If you plan on getting off strip you should get a hold of the American Casino Guide if you can. It will give you some 2/1 buffet coupons for Gold Coast, Orleans, Hilton, amongst other stuff.

Purple Reign are the Prince tribute band at the Boardwalk. They are excellent!!

Lesley,

My mum & I went to Vegas earlier this year for the first time - we have already booked to go back next October ! Being keen shoppers I am very interested to know how to get to other shops that are off the Strip. In your post you mention -

'Got bus along Sands/Twain to Boulevard Mall. Went to the usual shops like Best Buy and Barnes and Noble first.'

'Got taxi to Wal Mart on Charleston Boulevard $20 inc tip. Then after that we took the bus along Charleston to Martin Luther King boulevard and walked up to the Premium outlets.'

Could your possibly elaborate a little more on where you got on/off the bus etc. We went to the 'newer' outlet but went via taxi from the Luxor & that was about it !!

Many Thanks,

Debbie

Great report Lesley. What did you think of TI? Did you go ito Tangerine?

You must have been unlucky with your US Airways flights, as when we flew them from Manchester to Vegas via Philadelphia last year, we had the seat back t.v.'s, with excellent 'on-demand' IFE (stop, start, rewind as you please). New plane, free soft drinks, and headphones and a very generous 34" seat pitch.

It's possible they use different aircraft on the Glasgow/PHL route.

So when's the next trip?

Sweetpud,

This is the trip from TI to Boulevard Mall. Basically, go to TI, cross the strip, then go slightly along the side street which is Sands avenue, you will be facing the side of the Wynn Resort. There is a bus stop there that takes you east of the strip. Take that bus to 'South Maryland Parkway' to the Boulevard Mall. You will see the Mall, and probably Macy's in particular as you approach. You may get a better view if you sit on the left of the bus (left when facing forwards).

'Got taxi to Wal Mart on Charleston Boulevard $20 inc tip. Then after that we took the bus along Charleston to Martin Luther King boulevard and walked up to the Premium outlets.'

To go to this mall from the strip, take the strip bus north straight up to the Downtown Transportation Centre and transfer to the Premium Outlets shuttle. That is the cheapest way.

If you are interested in directions to other places, let me know. I have a decent map and know some of the bus routes.
