Depending on your time of arrival you could try the Jumbo hypermarket in the Forum Algarve - this is on the outskirts of Faro so you would have to turn off the airport road and go about 1km in the wrong direction as it were. This however is closed after 1300 Sundays as are almost all of the larger super- and hypermarkets.

Thanks Cubsur.. I know the one you mean. However its looking like that wont be open either as we most likely wont be out of the airport and into the car until 1pm.

I think we will just have to try to find a smaller place open on the Sunday afternoon and get the basics and then hit the hypermarket on Monday.

Thanks again.

There are a couple of small supermarkets I have popped into, while out and about, in the centre of Almancil on the main road but I have never been near them on a Sunday, so I don't know the opening hours if they are indeed open at all.

We popped into a small supermarket on a Sunday on Vilamoura, just round from the Tivoli Marine hotel and the Casino on the one way system. Not cheap but probably good enough to stock up on the basics.

Thanks Sunbear and Cubsur - just once we can get the basics we will be grand! We will have the car anyhow so will just have to drive around and see where we can find open.

Thanks once again.

dont know where you are staying or if you have a car but the Jaffa supermarket in the old village apartments is open all day on a sunday, not massive but sells most things

Yes I have used both the Ali Super in Vilamoura (horribly expensive) and also the Jaffa, which seems to have been enlarged since I last went in some while back. Forgot about those.

Yes - Hubby reminded me of the Ali Super in Vilamoura and in Quarteria if all else fails. Woeful selection but once its open on a Sunday afternoon we are laughing!

Thanks too for the info on the Jaffa supermarket - where exactly are the Old Village Apartments? We are staying in Vila Sol which is close to the AquaPark.

Thanks a million again.

Why not take your basic needs for yourselves in a cool box? A lot easier!

Lidl in Albufeira may be open as well. Our first port of call for the basics like bottled water and fruit and veg.
