Hi Fiona,
I have been lucky enough to have visited ,Bangkok,Singapore,Kuala lumpur, and Hong kong, all at least twice.
I rate my fav as Bangkok, followed by Hong kong ,Kuala lumpur ,and lastly singapore.
Although i have to add ,i love them all, for different reasons.
I am off to Hong kong in sept, i'm really looking forward to the trip,as i'm taking my Daughter with me, she has only travelled to Europe before, and has had to endure her Dad and i raving on about the far east for quite a few years now.
As soon as oasis ,the budget airline was in operation,i said i would take her, so we go in sept,£520 return for us both,i think that is a real bargain.
Have fun
Suzi

For me Bangkok, Chaing-Mai and environs, KL, Singapore and finally Hong Kong. For some reason HK did not really grab me...we spent a week there no great burning desire to return.

Have to say that I surprised myself by booking for HK just after New Year- but only for a dayand a half :D To be honest I think I have "done" HK now( we are there as we got free flights there but are flying over to BKK!) I certainly enjoyed HK but found it more tiring than the others.
I know however that we will return over and again to BKK and Singapore. And I love to a return to Saigon sometime( but must try Hanoi first!)

Can't really say I have a favourite, they all have something for and against. I like Bangkok it's so colourful and vibrant, though I haven't been for about 4years as the pollution affects my asthma. I've been to Singapore a few times but don't plan on going again unless it's a stopover on my way to OZ or NZ, the sticky heat always gets me down but I love the hawker food stalls. Kuala Lumpur and Saigon have real traffic problems though I would return to both, but like Fiona I would like to visit Hanoi before returning to Saigon. Chaing Mai is great if only for the countryside in easy reach of the city and the night market. I like the shopping in KL and, like Singapore the variety of food on offer.
I guess Hong Kong would probably be at the bottom of my list, though it's 15years since I was there so I'd like to see what has changed in the meantime.

Manado - but I did spend a year there!
Yogyakarta - A great city with plenty of amazing things nearby.
But Bangkok / Shanghai / Hong Kong are all exceptionally fun & amazing cities in their own rights. I salivate for months if I'm heading that way and staying t here.

KL / Singapore - No thanks.

Definitely Hong Kong! It's just so many different cities rolled into one that I can't imagine ever tiring of it. Then KL, Bangkok and Singapore.

Manado - as a young 18 year old I discovered Manado, and sold my rest of my RTW thus forgoing Oz / NZ for longer in Asia. I got a job assisting in the local university. Basically, Manado is great city, the only predominantly Christian city in Indonesia which means it's de rigeur to drink a beer, or arak on the harbour front watching sunsets over the nearby national park. There are numerous volcanoes, and most importantly, the nearby Bunaken Marine Park, where we used to rock-up at weekends, and camp and snorkel. The people are great, and the food.. well, they specialise in Rintuk Wuuk, which is basically curry dog. Field rat and bat are also on the menu!

Yogya is the cultural capital of Java. A very laid back, relaxed studenty place with some wonderful art galleries, batik shops and the two stunning temples of Borobudur and Pramban nearby. Heartily recommended. I was even conned here, and it was a nice con as I still came out with a fantastic batik having been conned the princely sum of £8 (that is conned by other peoples definitions!). A great stopover between Bali & Jakarta should you ever be doing it overland (although everyone unfortunately seems to fly these days).

As you can see i'm very Indo-centric, I love the country, and is always my first recommendation if someone is unsure where to go in Asia. And i'll rarely mention Bali!

My order would be Singapore, Bangkok then KL. I think Singapore because I know it so well and feel so safe and it is so easy to get around, they speak English and we now have many friends there. Bangkok was great because we had a room overlooking the river and just sitting watching the boats go by from the restaurant at night was great, although didn't see a lot of the rest of Bangkok. Having been to KL twice would not return, not that keen really, shopping wasn't as good as the other two cities and just felt we had to be more aware of ourselves in KL.
