A good hotel before going on holiday
11 years 4 months ago

The room had the usual facilities such as tea and coffee making and a TV, but it was an old fashioned one and not flat screen.

Breakfast was cooked to order as the hotel wasn’t busy. We have stayed there before and it has been a buffet. We still hadn’t receive our breakfast after half an hour and called the waitress over. She went to check, but didn’t come back and it was another 5 minutes before it arrived. The beans were stone cold, chilled as if they had just been taken out of the fridge and they were over everything.

We went and got the waitress who said she would get the manager and offered us fresh tea seeing as ours was now cold. The manager apologised profusely. The fresh tea never arrived and we left in disgust.

We did get a bottle of wine by way of apology as we had pre-paid, but would much rather have had the breakfast we were expecting as we were heading for the airport and would now have to pay for over-priced food there.

The hotel provides free parking while you are on holiday.

We have stayed at this hotel several times and hope that the breakfast issue was an isolated incident so will return.

An all round good hotel

Checked in and we were allocated Room 118 which was refurbished and very nice with a view of the bridge. There was a double bed which was very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. The room was very warm, but we couldn't get the radiator turned down.

There was a CRT TV on the desk and tea and coffee making facilities. There is free wi-fi in the lobby and bar, but not in the rooms.

The bathroom looked new and was in good order, but the shower pressure was slow.

We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast. Dinner was served in the bar as the hotel was very quiet just before Christmas and it probably wasn't worth opening the restaurant. We both had chicken liver parfait with chutney and salad to start which was lovely and a meal in itself. Roast turkey and trimmings which was piping hot then I had chocolate cheesecake and hubby had Xmas pudding. It was all very good

There is a Leisure Centre with a pool and gym.

Breakfast is served till 10.30 at the weekend. Cereals, juice, cheese and fruits, sausage, bacon, square sausage, black pudding, tattie scone, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, beans, tomato and it was all good.

The shuttle bus to airport leaves at 15 mins past the hour and the journey takes 10-15 minutes.

We would stay here again

I booked the Erskine Bridge through Holiday Extras. It was £50 for room only including parking or £80 to include dinner and breakfast which we opted for.

We were allocated room 526, but the key didn’t work so had to go back down and get it recoded.

I had requested a refurbished room, but was told that we may not get one with booking through a third party. However we struck lucky.

The room was nice and a good size compared to the Normandy. It had a large window with a great view of the River Clyde. There were twin beds, tea/coffee making facilities and a CRT TV. The bathroom was brand new and spotless, but there was no toilet roll holder and the door didn’t close.

There is a Leisure Centre with a pool and gym for guests use.

We went down for dinner and we had an allowance up to £18.95. The 3 course menu in the restaurant was £18.95 so we had that. Game terrine with chutney, smoked salmon or soup; roast loin of pork with wholegrain mustard potatoes and apple compote, salmon fishcakes or tagliatelle; fresh fruit salad (which was mostly apples), orange and chocolate torte or trio of ice creams which were honeycomb, Cranachan and Irn Bru. Drinks were steep at £3.60 for a pint of lager and £4.50 for a medium glass of wine. Service was fairly quick and the food was good.

Still had a problem with the room key which took umpteen attempts before it worked even after being recoded.

There is free wifi in the lobby, but not in the rooms.
The beds were comfy with 2 pillows and a thin duvet. The room temperature was good, not too warm like Normandy Hotel. The shower pressure was pathetic and shower gel and shampoo were provided.

The hotel was very busy with coach tours, mostly German, French and Israeli and they had over 300 guests.

Breakfast is served till 10.30 at the weekend. There were cereals, juice, cheese and fruits, sausage, bacon, square sausage, black pudding, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, beans, tomato and it was all good.

The shuttle bus to the airport leaves at 15 mins past the hour and the journey takes 10-15 mins.

We enjoyed our stay much better than last time we stayed there and would have no hesitation in staying again.

Stayed overnight in this hotel before flying out from Glasgow Airport.

Hotel looks very grubby and run down from the outside but i do believe they are refurbishing it.

Our room was fine, clean and had lovely views over the Erskine Bridge.

Had a meal in hotel, not a great choice but when food arrived it was fine.

Transfer to airport was 25 minutes late going out, luckily we had arranged to go on an early bus than we needed to and coming back, well i tried for 20 minutes to get thru it kept going on to voicemail, eventually spoke to someone and the bus came about 10 minutes later.

Basically for the money we paid £59 for 1 night including 15 days parking it was fine.

Good place to stay if the price is right

We booked this hotel for one night’s stay and parking prior to going on holiday. It was the best rate we could get for a triple room at an airport hotel and it cost £60 booking direct.

It was dark when we arrived, but it still looked quite dreary and run down on the outside. Reception looked OK and we were checked in quickly and allocated room 424. The lift and corridors looked very run down and worn and in need of some refurbishment.

The room itself was OK, a bit tired, but suitable for a one night’s stay, however the TV was broken. I called to reception and they changed the room immediately to one across the corridor. Again this was just OK and a bit tired, but the sheets and the bathroom were clean.

There were two single beds and one camp bed. The single one was comfortable enough, but hubby said the camp bed was very uncomfortable.

We didn’t have breakfast as we were leaving early in the morning, but we had a drink in the lounge and it was very run down with dirty carpet and worn chairs and tables.

On checking out they tried to charge a higher rate than I had booked, but honoured the correct rate when I complained.

The hotel does not have its own courtesy bus so transfers to the airport were by an outside contractor. Because of this they only run once an hour at quarter past the hour. This meant us getting to the airport much earlier than planned, but wasn’t a major problem. We were picked up on time at 5.15am and the journey took 10-15 minutes.

We were given the number of the outside contractor to call when we returned to arrange transfer back to the hotel to pick up our car. However despite calling several times there was no reply when I called it. I called the hotel and they said they would arrange either for a minibus or a taxi to collect us. A minibus arrived within 5 minutes.

We have stayed in much better airport hotels, but would consider this one again for one night if the price was right. I wouldn’t wish to stay there for any length of time and would choose another hotel if the difference was only a few pounds.
