This is the first time we have cruised on a Thomson ship, but it won't be the last. Our time on board The Destiny was brilliant.
From the 'sail away' party on deck to the moment we arrived back in Palma 7 days later we were very impressed.
Our cabin steward Galina was very friendly, courteous and efficient as were the whole crew.
The food in the Seven Seas restaurant was superb and our waiters Adrian and Marius provided excellent service with a smile. All the waiters kept the diners entertained throughout.
The onboard entertainment kept on going throughout the day and into the night. Quizzes, ice carving, fruit and veg sculptures, silly games all happened on deck and in the evening the shows were spectacular. Well done to the Cruise Director, Richsrd Sykes and all the talented entertainments team.
We have sailed with the so called 'BIG names' in cruising in the past, but have never experienced a more well organised, happy and efficient crew than this.
We had a fantastic holiday and are already looking to sail onboard The Destiny next year.

Just returned a couple of weeks ago from a 1 week cruise on the Destiny.

Nothing much changed since June. See my review from Jun 2005.

Food

Just as in June. Missed the midnight choc buffet AGAIN - too tired.

Staff

We pre-booked the same cabin, and Cami, our cabin steward, was very surprised to see us & greeted us with a kiss and hug. Our ast. restuarant manager, Angel (he's no Angel), Valentin, our head waiter, & Costin at the pursers desk (yes, you have lost weight since June) were also very surprised to see us. Our waiters this time were Bong & Ed, who were very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - they were all fantastic.

Hope to see you all again late next year. Hope the re-fit goes o.k. in Oct - have a good rest until Mar/Apr '06.

Well just returned from a week on the Destiny doing the Jewels of the Med cruise. The ship is actually very nice considering its age. I understand from some of the staff that at the end of this year/season it is going to dry dock for a multi-million pound re-fit. I do know from speaking with the Chief Engineer on board that it is has new engines fitted. The actual cruise itself in terms of sailing was very enjoyable but some of the places we visited were basically a dump ! They say "see Naples and die" and now I can understand why. The place is a refuse tip to say the least. The Thomson excursions are a total and utter rip off. You basically pay £30 each for a coach ride. We had one stop on all the excursions of between 45 minutes and an hour and a half. By the time you've found the toilets, had a coffee it's back on the coach and back to the ship. Complete rip-off in terms of value. We pre-booked 3 of them. After that we just went ashore and took taxi's to places. Far cheaper and you can spend most of the day doing things instead of the hour Thomsons give you. The cabin was clean and quite spacious, though we did have a suite on deck 7. I understand that some of the lower deck cabins are very small and cramped. We did well, our next door neighbours for the week was the Captains suite !! The staff are all very polite and very hard working. Food was great, eventhough the vultures who would get as much as they could carry then eat 2 mouthfulls and throw the rest away really made me angry. Of course you get some who eat in the Seven Seas restaurant and then go upto the Lido for round 2 !!! It really opened my eyes to how greed is a terrible thing. Had 110v and 240v in our cabin, both with American flat pin sockets and the round Euro type aswell.
Good holiday, but not the best I've had. Wouldn't rush to go again though, felt too much like Butlins to me.

My wife and I sailed on the Destinity on the 15th September, 2005 for 7 nights.

We had a fantastic week on board. We did not go on any of the trips we just went on our own strolling around.

The ship was great, crew brilliant and food excellent. We have come back and booked another two cruises next year with thompson. One on the Destinity and one on the Celebration.

We travelled on the Destiny in September of this year and found it to be enjoyable, with only a few exceptions. The ship itself although being relatively old by some standards didn't show it's age really at all. Back in the early 80's she must have been something very special.
We had a suite which was very generous in size. We were quite surprised at this because some reviews gave the impression that the cabins were small. Perhaps the lower deck inside ones may be on the small side? The balcony was a definate bonus to watch the superb sunsets.

Food was very good and plenty of it. Shame that there is so much waste generated from basically to many chances to eat ! Staff were excellent and found the reception staff very helpful and friendly at all times. Our steward was brilliant and serviced the room twice sometimes three times a day with clean towels, sheets, a hoover round etc. And kept the mini-bar well stocked. The excursions could be vastly improved. Far to much time on the coach and not enough time stopping off. Wouldn't have minded the £29 a head so much. Enjoyed the ports of call, shame we couldn't have stayed a little longer in some of the nicer ones.
All in all we enjoyed it and glad we went. Hadn't been in a cruise before and had a few pre conceived worries which never really materialised. I can understand to a point that some people may find it a little "Butlinsish". There is the feeling that everyone is doing the same thing at the same time in surroundings that you can't really escape from. Meal times are at set times, the shows are at specific times etc so you do get a large volume of people all waiting/doing the same thing at the same time. I guess most hotels may be like this but then of course there are other places to disappear to in the evenings like the local bars and restaurants. I did miss the mingling with locals bit that you get with a more conventional holiday.
Would we go again? Well yes perhaps in our twilight years but not just at the moment. Maybe we would then appreciate it differently.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. I didn't really expect to be treated with much respect as I am only 13 but I was wrong. The service was brilliant and as was pointed out on our last night the waiters are some of the hardest working people onboard as are the maids. Every morning and every night our room was cleaned and tidied (which I'm sure was quite a challenge for a room of two messy 13 year olds and a messy 15 year old!).

The food was delicious. Every night a selection of tasty meals were offered to us,about 5 or 6 choices per course. It was alwayz a hard decision to choose as there were so much nice food to choose from!

The entertainment was amazing. Neptunes Nightclub was my favourite where a DJ was there from 11pm until about 3am! I went with my cousins to disco the night away and to meet up with friends I had made. My favourite show that I saw was "Lots of Love",it was really enjoyable to watch. Alot of effort and hard work is obviously put into all of the entertainment and it shows for it!

As I said before, the maids do a wonderful job tidying the rooms and everywhere else is spick-and-span! I don't think it could have been any cleaner!

I would DEFINITELY go on this cruise again, there's no doubt about it! It was fabulous, keep up the good work!

The ship was always very clean having the staff clean your cabin twice a day, but made messy again very quickly of course having 3 teenagers in the room. Our cleaner Nerico was amazing it was never a trouble for him to come back later if (and we usually were) asleep.

I never really found the entertainment brilliant, I went to a show once and never went again. Infact I hated the cruise at first, there werent many people my age there, but by the time it got the the end there were loads of guys that i met and we spent all night in Neptunes. And someone accidentally broke the chair in the circle of seats next to the bar (which by the way was not me or one of the people i met and got on with...) .There was an amazing member of staff called Danny, dressed as a pirate, who comes up with some sweet cusses.

The walls in the cabins are paper thin and we even got a complaint telling us that we were too noisy at night!

The food was well prepared but too fancy, sometimes it's nice to eat simply which was hardly ever and option in the seven seas restaurant but if simple is waht you are looking for then you would be better going to the lido bar.

It was good by the end but you really need to meet people your own age, not as good for teenagers I would say but still enjoyable.

No problems at all with the holiday from start to finish. Ship was kept spotless.Food was excellent. Cabins were a little small but they were only for sleeping in. Entertainment was great and Richard Sykes was a credit to the Destiny. Excursions were well priced except from Rome which was about £100 for 1 adult, and children over 12 are classed as adults in the excursions! I would definatly use the All Inclusive again especially with having a child in the party. The staff couldnt do enough for you and the waiters kept the children amused with their magic tricks and napkin folding. Over all a great holiday and i would definatly cruise with the Destiny again.
