Hi Lady,
We stayed in Hotel La Playa easter '04, and thought it was a very clean and pleasant base. If you do a google search you should be able to find a photo.
It's a 3* with a nice pool area and you should be able to make more use of it in June than we did in a chilly week in early April. It's a traditional hotel with lots of tiled floors etc. but a good 20 minute walk into Alghero town, although as you're walking along the beach that can be very pleasant.
The staff were friendly, rooms were spotless and the buffet breakfast was good.
Alghero is a pleasant town, although when we were there the season had not started & lots of places weren't open, so you should see it at its best.
Don't miss the day trip to Costa smeralda which is just stunning! 8)

We're off to Alghero for a couple of days in June

What are the must sees/dos/eats etc to fill a couple of days?
We prefer the real places as opposed to the touristy places so local recommendations would be great :D

We're staying at Hotel Angedras- its €80 a night inc breakfast

They have been super efficient so far- quick reponses to all emails and very friendly too- it looks lovely on the website and have read decent reviews too.

We popped off to Alghero for a few days last week.
It is a lovely small, old city with great views and little alleyways. Make sure you have your phrasebook with you as some restaurants only have menus in Italian with no english translations, but you get so m uch further if you try to speak Italian.
We stayed in a lovely hotel- Angedras- which is about 10-15 minutes walk from the old town which was ideal, they have lovely clean rooms, and a great breakfast, supplied by the cake shop round the corner.
The boat trip out to Neptunes Grotto was also goo- but it does cost €13 for the boat then another €10 each to go into the caves although they are pretty spectacular, and mooring up in the entrance to the caves is an experience as well.
It is not a particularly cheap place to eat and drink though
The beach is very good and clean, crystal clear water, and white sands gently shelving into warm water.
All in all a good place for a couple of days break in the sun- it was 32 degrees last Wednesday!- our taxi driver was prompt and got us to and from the aiport quickly and without any fuss as well, just be aware there is nothing once you are through security- the only drinks are availabe from a vending machine.
