When we stayed at the Somy in March, we were forced to pay for the air conditioning whether we wanted it or not, they wouldnt check us in until we paid up. Apparently they allocate certain rooms for Thomas Cook customers and said we couldn't change to another room unless we wanted to upgrade and that would have cost 1000 rupees per night. Having said that I found it to be a typical basic Goan hotel and in a very good location.

Thanks Polly, on FC they have 2 rates and the second is £56 pp for an AC room, so do you mean we would have the option of AC if we booked the non AC room, can you remeber how much you paid for the AC in the resort.
I think we have decided that as long as the beds are clean we don't mind and it does seem to be in a good location. Stayed in the MD last year in Apora and the taxi drivers did my head in.

We weren't given the option of a non a/c room and we have just checked and we paid £53 total not each. There was confusion when we arrived there as all our documents stated that a/c was included, but they wouldn't budge and we had to pay up. Took this up with the TC rep, but he said we had to pay and he was fed up because he had been getting complaints from new arrivals all season because of this. I don't know what FC does though. We had booked through TC and couldn't really complain too much as we had got a really cheap deal at £270pp for the holiday.

Thanx Polly, sorry it is with TC (we usually go with FC but since the merger they have cut availabilty and prices have soared) probably best to take the Non AC option and then pay in resort if we have to. Were the beds clean and what was the bathroom like? we stayed in the MD last year and people rave about it but our toilet was with a well worn seat hanging off, so I am a bit scared about a lesser rated resort, but after a few Honybees ,well:rofl

The beds were clean and quite comfortable. The bathroom was very large and more like a wet room, it was OK and there was always plenty of hot water. There was a separate large room, which I think may have been a kitchen at some point as there was a large sink in there, handy for swilling through swimwear and any bits of washing you might want to do. It also had a small wardrobe and rack to store suitcases, it was a big room with not much in it. The breakfasts there were much better than any of the other hotels I have stayed in in Goa, far better than the Marinha Dourada, but didn't eat there in the evening. Did have a snack one late lunchtime, a sandwich and that was good, but you can't go far wrong with a sandwich. The staff are nice and friendly and the security guards too especially the one on in the evening, a real happy chappy! I am sure you will be fine with the Somy.

Thanx Polly we have booked today but we had to pay the £56 each extra as no other rooms were available, do you know what the rooms that were 1000rps extra were like , i was just wondering if maybe we have a luxery suite : where about in Calangute is it I know the road with the 2 roundabouts the first one leading to Candolim is it on that road that leads to Soueymans kitchen near the Osbourne
