Bad news TT there are no cheap car hire places in Barcelona or none any where as cheap as the "resort" airports. I have tried a few times to hire a car and it is just too dear, I always get trains everywhere for this reason.

Snap we are in the same position. Like you always used Carjet and could never fault them and found them to be the cheapest around and had a great deal in Majorca this year. However we are going to Salou and have found car hire in Barcelona airport so expensive that we have decided to used public transport.

We have also been looking at car hire from Barcelona airport.

We are going to the Costa De Azahar in May and because BA have good prices on their flights to Barcelona thought we might just do the 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive down the coast.

However it seems that the car hire is so expensive from Barcelona that we might just wait until flights to Valencia are released and go there instead where car hire is relatively cheap.

I presume it is because most people flying into Barcelona do not hire a car so not many firms work out of there - no competition.

Not true at least 6 different firms work out of BC and they all do a lot of business.

Yes thats a shame, we are still looking to hire a car to take us to Salou/cambrils from Barcelona and although it is too early to book with car jet (May 2007 prices not out yet, does anyone know when they will be?) we have also noticed they charge insurance excess from Barcelona but didn't charge any excess this year when we hired in Malaga??! Does anyone know why this is? I just can't beleive that it is proving not only expensive but difficult to find a car hire firm without all the "extras" that we didn't have on this years holiday. Does anyone know if if would be worth us getting the train from the airport and then renting in Salou or Cambrils to save money or would this be too much hassle (we will have 3 kids in tow ages 8, 10 &11) We don't know this area of Spain at all so no idea on trains, shuttles, prices, distances etc I would appreciate any advice thanks

Thanks for that A1Giv, we are going late May/early June 2007 and yes I have tried Holiday Autos, they seem really expensive, doo you Spain at the mo seem ok but no where near as cheap as what we paid this year in Malaga.

Thanks to both Pippa and A1giv for providing so many links to car rental companys,some of them we have never even heard of and therefore would never have found them! So far autoturistica seem about the cheapest that we have seen from Barcelona and it is so much easier as they are giving the quotes for next May when we go only thing is we have never heard of them, has anyone used them? Their site dosn't really give much info about the cars or they way they operate regarding what to pay on pick up (petrol/diesel full tank any extras etc) and are they based inside the airport? It is very tempting to book with them in view of their price but would like to find out more about them first. Thanks

Have you tried http://www.economycarhire.com we have used them in Portugal as have 100s of other forum users in the Portugal forum, they also do Spain give them a try.
We have used carjet in the past however these where cheaper and just as good with no extra costs to add.

Unfortunately economy car hire do not have Barcelona on their list of locations. This is the case with several other companies also.

Yes Pippa I have just discovered that they don't do Barcelona, you are right quite a few of them don't actually do Barcelona. Autoturistica still seem about the best bet so far just trying to do a bit of digging to find out if they are reliable but not managing to find out much I'm guessing they are a broker,? If so does anyone know what car rental companies they use?

Send the an email and ask who they use to supply there cars etc and and other question you can think of, if they are interested in doing business and genuine they they should answer pretty quick.

I emailed them and they have got back to me very quickly with this reply:-

If that is the case then they use Europcar to supply there cars they are just agents. The Europcar collection point is right outside terminal "A" you can't miss it
