I e-mailed irish customs

A person is allowed bring in cheese from another EU Member State to Ireland.
The quantity should not exceed 10kg maximum. The cheese should be for the
persons personal use, i.e.. a gift or to be used while here. The cheese
should have been freely available to buy, in your instance in the UK. This
would ensure that the cheese was from an approved source. Approved sources
have an EU Health mark and are packaged properly.
