Yes-- we went but long before the airport opened at Bodrum, so it was a 4.5hr trek/journey from the airport. But was well worth it, lovely long beach and though it was not very commercialised then, there was still plenty of resturants, bars etc.
And the best sunsets I have seen anywhere in the world.
Would go back tomorrow if only I hadn't caught the Icmeler bug, but can certainly recommend it also as loads of places of interest round about. powdie

Hi
If you have booked to go to Turgutries then you are on to a winner. I have been there twice, and think it's the best holiday place I have ever been, much better than Olu Deniz. It is also only a short dolmus away from some 'must go to' places, including Bodrum and especially Gumusluk. We are trying Icmeler this year but it will have to be a pretty amazing place to match Turgutries!

Turgutries was the first place we ever went to in Turkey. To call the hotel basic was being polite
But we had the best holiday we have ever had.
Highlights were the parties in the supermarket, dancing whilst the local butcher played and people were in getting their shopping
Booking a Gulet trip with two other couples and finding we were the only ones on it so spent the day squid fishing
Watching an 80 year old woman having the time of her life being taken for a ride on the back of Ali's harley
And the sunsets were to die for
Its a wonderful place, you will love it

I went to the Tuesday market in Turgetreis! Was based in Gumbet! Did not see much of the town but the market was phenomenol!
Perhaps we should keep the place a secret, we wouldn't want too many visiters spoiling it. Turgutries is horrible, stay away!!!! lol
Turgetries was also our first Turkish Holiday, about 11 years ago (like powdie it was over 4 hours transfer time). We loved it and it got us hooked on Turkey. Went back for a visit 4 years ago when we were staying in Torba hadn`t changed that much. I think some of the restaurants on the street that runs throught the middle of Turgetries are some of the best we have been in, the Turkish casseroles are to die for.
I am sure you will have a great time. We a trying Akyaka this year.

It all sounds pretty good to me!
methinks we made a good choice - going to Turgutreis this August for the first time after going to Icmeler for last 2 years. (I promise I won't tell anyone else though!)
cheers,
paulo

I went there last October for the first time with my family (5 in total)
Place in lovely with very little hassle (If you look at my previous posts from last year you will see some hassle was encountered, however)
All in all an excellent location. The Hotel was a bit far out from the Main centre although the walk/dolmus was fine.
Great place with mostly great people.
Boat Trips and Turkish Bath visits and the market made it the best holiday we have had.
We go back to Turkey this year but are going to Olu Deniz this time.

I am going to Gumbet in August I was told that there is a market in Turgutreis. What day is this on, how long does it take on the bus and where would I get the bus I am staying in the jasmine appartments. Sorry so much questions,I'm just so excited.
The market is on a Wednesday, the dolmus would take about 15-20mins from Gumbet, look for Turgutries on the front of the dolmus or just follow the crowds.
While in Gumbet, you really should visit Gumusluk, a small , stunning fishing village. You can get there either by dolmus (30mins from Gumbet)or on one of the boat trips. A lovely place.

Isn't the main market in Turgutries on a Saturday? I've been going to Gumbet for years, and went to Turgutries market (for about the 6th time) last year on a Saturday. Its always been a Saturday, unless they've changed it this year?

Monarch,
Take the Bardakci dolmus (minibus) which stops right outside your apartments, into Bodrum. You'll get off the at the dolmus station in Bodrum, then all you have to do is find the Turgutries dolmus - they are easy to find.

Hi,We have recently stayed in Icmeler which we absolutley fell in love with it was the perfect holiday ans we will be returning to turkey asap can anyone tell me about Turgutreis it does not seem to be a popular as some of the other resorts but Ive heard some good reports on the accomodations. Has anyone stayed at the Yasmin Bodrum Resort any info on this would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I have just swaped over my hol in Bulgaria because of all the bad reports & hubby and I are going to Turgutreis instead. I have read all the reviews & we are really pleased, it sounds fantastic! We are staying at the hotel Mandalinci any one been there?
Our holiday rep at first choice was fantastic in helping us change everything over.

The Mandalinci is in the centre of Turgutreis (Slap bang along "Bar Street").
I heard a few reports of it being very noisy on the Bar Street side when we were there and the Hotel REviews state this too.
Have a look at the reviews on the Hotel for a better understanding of it.
I would advise getting on to your Holiday Travel agent and getting your request in for choice of rooms immediately.

We also heard that its very noisy there (this was 6 years ago). The bars emptying, the dogs barking and somebody even complained about the noise of the market setting up
