RIU mambo was a good all rounder when we were there 2 years ago, not daft expensive but expensive enough to not be a 'cheapy' if that makes sense (we paid £1800 for 2 of us, 2 weeks in march which is quite an expensive time in dominican-hotel was lovely.
we booked with portland, same holiday as thomson but a bit cheaper, only by about £50 but still...

Yes, we spent some time there when staying at the Merengue. You could also use the facilities of the Bachata. The Mambo was the cheapest of the 3 to stay in but it makes sense to stay there as you can wander and eat between all the three sister hotels

The Riu Complex in Punta Cana is the same! You can use the facilities of the other hotels too. There are 5 all together & the higher star you book the more you can use!
