I was under the impression that as long as you didn't go over your total baggage allowance, each individual bag could weigh over 20kg - we have booked to take 3 cases between 4 of us but we have a weight limit of 80kg between us so we should be able to have about 25kg for each case.
So, as long as we don't take more than 20kg each we should be ok? Is that correct or have I got it wrong?
Also I can't find anywhere saying about a weight for hand luggage.
Sorry, I just realised I already had the answer to the hand luggage question
Hi Kedi - I've just taken this off the Easy jet web site
That's great - thank you

So what can each case weigh up to then?(sorry to be so stupid and I have indeed read the info over and over again but still fail to understand it)

To Be Within Easyjets Limits And To Avoid Extra Charges, You Will Be Allowed 3 Bags (As That Is What You Have Payed For) Each Weighing 20kg, A Combined Total Of 60kg's. No Bag Must Exceed 32kg
Gower

That's how I understood it, the other recent posts regarding an up to 25kg confused me somewhat

Easyjet have axed the year round Newcastle-Prague route and moved the aircraft onto the new seasonal Newcastle-Malta service
I may need to change a flight, rebook, same destination different departure airport. What are Easyjet charging for this? I understand I will have to pay the difference in price of original booking.

I have just had a look again at the Easyjet website because, as I said before I thought that if we had 80kg we could spread it over 3 bags without getting charged excess as we still are only taking 20kg each, even if the 3 bags weigh more than 20kg each
But Gower has now said we should only be taking 60kg
Anyway this is the link :
http://easyjet.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/easyjet.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4&p_created=1074004664&p_sid=RISNQuwj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MjYsMjYmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWhvbGQgYmFnZ2FnZQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1
Can someone tell me who is right, because if two people can take one bag weighing 32 kg, then we should be able to take 3 bags weighing 25kg each shouldn't we

I don't want to end up paying excess but if we do have 80 kg I want to be able to make use of it!
Sorry again, I am probably confusing everyone else now

If hubby and I are just travelling with easy for a weekend I normally just pay for 1 hold bag between the two of us but that then only allows us the 20KG.
If our whole family of 5 are travelling I usually add on 2/3 bags but nowadays I try to keep bags within 20KG just because so many airlines wont allow you to "pool" anymore
Does that make sense.

"3 Hold bag(s) per flight between all passengers combined
The 4 passenger(s) in this booking may check in a combined total of 3 hold bag(s) for each flight on this booking. The total hold weight must not exceed 80 kg. Selecting additional bags to check in won't increase the total hold weight allowed."
I think I am going to email Easyjet just to be sure, I will let everyone know what they say. I don't think we will actually carry more than 20kgs in each case anyway but I would like to be sure.
Kedi
I think you may have a wait if you email them, it would be much easier just to print off the page from the link you supplied earlier and take it with you when you fly. I think you are right and the others are wrong (sorry!) and that you have stumbled on to an interesting point. As touched on by others, many airlines don't allow pooling but, from the link, it seems that easyjet do. It clearly shows - in pictures - that 2 people can pay for one bag and fill it to the 32kg safe lifting limit (see below).
Their policy is that EVERYONE gets 20kg free allowance for carrying in the plane but there is charge per bag for handling at the airports. So your group of 4 gets 80kg as it says in the reservation email and you can split it between 3 bags and only pay 3 airport handling charges as long as none weigh more than 32kg.
Their various weight limits are;
20kg - individual free carriage allowance
50kg - individual maximum carriage allowance (20 free, 30 paid as excess at £9 per kg)
32kg - internationally recognised safe manual lifting limit for one person - after this they would have to wait for a second baggage handler or a fork lift and that would upset their system and delay loading.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The link with the pictures is currently dated 13 February 2009, anyone reading this later than now (April) should recheck it just in case easyjet realise they could make more money by falling in line with other carriers.
I usually fly with Jet2 so have little experience of Easyjet, I assumed that if it's 20kg per person and this must be paid for it was 60kg for three and 80kg for four etc.
If it's not that way why would anyone pay for hold luggage for their family when they can just take the one case?

Their policy is that EVERYONE gets 20kg free allowance for carrying in the plane but there is charge per bag for handling at the airports
Hmmm we may have stumbled across something very interesting . I did read that link but hadnt noticed that only 1 hold bag between 2 had been purchased

If it's not that way why would anyone pay for hold luggage for their family when they can just take the one case?
So it would appear that the 5 of us could get away with 2/3 very heavy bags as long as each doesnt go over 32KG and that the charge we pay per bag is nothing to do with purchasing a "weight" and only a handling charge.
We now need someone to test out this theory for real, Can someone do that before we are due to fly next month please?
Well hubby and I are flying with them on 5th june but so far i've not booked any hold allowance . Was going to try and attempt the hand luggage only with online checkin but so far I've always bottled out and added a hold bag a couple of days before .
Dear Mrs Ecer,
Thank you for contacting us.
I understand your confusion about the hold bag allowance on this booking.
Having checked the records, I can confirm that the total allowable weight for the 3 bags booked in this booking is 80 kgs. This means that you can divide the weight of 80 kgs in all the 3 bags booked. Please make sure that no single piece of hold luggage exceeds 32 kgs.

I hope I have been able to answer your question fully, if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be more than happy to assist you further.
Yours sincerely,
Brilliant, thanks for posting that Kedi
Thanks for that kedi . We have all learnt something today .Dont forget to print it off and take it with you.
